Kind Eyes

Can you tell what kind of person someone is simply by looking at their eyes?

I'd say - heck extra-no! In fact, people can be so contrary to the image they present, we can know them all our lives and not truly know what kind of person they are (sometimes).

Job 31 (NIV '84)
"33 if I have concealed my sin as people do,
by hiding my guilt in my heart
34 because I so feared the crowd
and so dreaded the contempt of the clans
that I kept silent and would not go outside—"

There is a Scripture verse (I don't recall the reference) which says that Leah, Jacob's wife and Laban's daughter, 'was tender eyed'...

I assumed everyone would answer yes to this question, and a few of us would be a little embarrassed because we could improve our own demeanor.

When the Holy Spirit is filling up a person, you can see light in the eyes...and I am not speaking metaphorically. There is a glow in the eyes and face.

I could be wrong, but I think it's a meaning of the name Leah, several other meanings including weak eyes and cow eyes...

Caroline:

I see, this is interesting.

So you maybe studied it from the Hebrew to see what it exactly means, then.

acording to babynames.com, Leah means "weary". I've heard that "tender-eyed" was a euphemism for "unattractive" (i.e. not much to look at). That might explain why she was still single, even though she was the older sister, and also why her father used deception to get her married.

I didn't intend to come off as though I have no faith in the integrity of other people. I'm just saying that some people can definitely put on the persona that is not true of their nature of motivations. Some are very trustworthy and sincere, but you never know. People can hide a lot from others. :twocents

When I was young and naive I would have said yes, but experience has taught me far different. Some of the wickedest people have been described as having a wonderful charisma about them, something kind, charming, and shining in their eyes that draws others to them, but satan can disguise as an angel. Don`t trust the eyes. God says to judge a person by their fruit and He also says NOT to judge a person by their outward appearances. God says He looks at a person`s heart. I think that is where we have to look too and we see the heart by their fruit, words, and actions all rolled up into one. I think the eyes are not only a part of the outward appearance but also can be very deceptive and the more deceptive the person, the more deceptively they can use their eyes. Wicked people know how to use their eyes and I am sure satan has coached them. Of course, some genuinely kind people do have very kind, smiling, shining eyes, but my point is satan likes to make counterfeit to deceive so we need to rely on more than just the eyes.

An eyeball is an eyeball is an eyeball. To me it’s like asking if you can tell what kind of person someone is by looking in their ear. Take time to get to know someone, but still be a little careful. As Mike said – one can easily be misled. <O:p</O:p

Makes me think of my mother trying to set me up on dates when I was a teen. If she started with “He’s got such a lovely personality” I just knew…<O:p</O:p

There is also the passage about Satan being transformed into an angel of light.

Lesson: looks can be deceiving...

Yes, that is exactly the scripture I was thinking of as well. Satan can make evil people take on a "glow" or "shine" that we as Christians often associate with a very Godly spirit filled person. It is just another tool in satan`s deception box. The only sure fire way of discerning a person is by looking at their fruit and this is the only method God has told us to use, and He definitely told us to do this. He warned time and again about false prophets and teachers. These are the very ones that come out with the shining Christian appearance, but that`s all it is an appearance. If we look at the fruit we will see the true heart of the person, but it takes time to see the fruit. We can`t just see a person doing one good deed and declare them a faithful child of God. We have to look at their whole Christian life.

That is exactly right.

However, there is another side to this. There are those people who have been so bound over to a demon spirit that the look in their eyes is literally dull--no highlights, and their facial expressions are also very dull. I have witnessed it personally. this person I know and love dearly went to be delivered and when she came back, it was apparent to all she was free by her beautiful eyes--gleaming! Her face took on more control and exhibited brightness and alertness, which was lacking before.

It is from my experience that I say that truly born again people who have been baptized in the Holy Spirit and are walking with God, seeking after Him with all their might show a radiance like none other on their countenance.

Christians generally tend to know each other.

I agree, but I think we have to be careful because satan is a master of disguise and deception.

That goes without saying, but the light of the world is brighter.

Romans 12:11 Amplified
Never lag in zeal and in earnest endeavor; be aglow and burning with the Spirit, serving the Lord.

I would suppose the followers of David Koresh and people like him would say they had a sincere look about them. There have been very charismatic people who have deceived honest people who trusted their integrity. Koresh is an extreme example, but there are people we meet every day what they claim to be.
