Hmmmm, why did God create science? I was reading Genesis and hit the part about Noa's Ark, and it got me wondering about rainbows. We have scientific proof of what they are, but why did God make it that way? Why did got give us science?

My thoughts? To try to preoccupy us and keep us away from sin.

What you thought is true Dakota, to keep us preoccupied instead of getting bored perhaps.

GOD GIVES WISDOM, KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Colossians 2:3 - In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Proverbs 8:12 - I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty inventions.

GOOD EXAMPLE OF DANIEL

Daniel is a good example of one who feared God and kept His ways and also rich in wisdom and knowledge and understanding of science.

Daniel 1:4 - Children in whom was no blemish, but well favoured, and skilful in all wisdom, and cunning in knowledge, and understanding science, and such as had ability in them to stand in the king's palace, and whom they might teach the learning and the tongue of the Chaldeans.

Daniel 1:17 - As for these four children, God gave them knowledge and skill in all learning and wisdom: and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

Daniel 1:19,20 - And the king communed with them; and among them all was found none like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: therefore stood they before the king. And in all matters of wisdom and understanding, that the king enquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and astrologers that were in all his realm.

GOOD EXAMPLE OF SOLOMON

God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding including science.

1 Kings 4:29-34 - And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. And Solomon's wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. For he was wiser than all men; than Ethan the Ezrahite, and Heman, and Chalcol, and Darda, the sons of Mahol: and his fame was in all nations round about. And he spake three thousand proverbs: and his songs were a thousand and five . And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes. And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom.

BAD EXAMPLE OF PRINCE OF TYRUS

The Bible speaks of a certain Prince of Tyrus who was wiser than Daniel and who had amassed great riches and wealth with his wisdom but his heart was lifted up with enormous pride and he considered himself as God. And Prophet Ezekiel received the Word of God concerning Prince Tyrus. One needs to exercise caution keeping the following verses in mind -

Ezekiel 28:1-9 - The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying, Son of man, say unto the prince of Tyrus, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thine heart is lifted up, and thou hast said, I am a God, I sit in the seat of God, in the midst of the seas; yet thou art a man, and not God, though thou set thine heart as the heart of God: Behold, thou art wiser than Daniel; there is no secret that they can hide from thee: With thy wisdom and with thine understanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten gold and silver into thy treasures: By thy great wisdom and by thy traffick hast thou increased thy riches, and thine heart is lifted up because of thy riches: Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast set thine heart as the heart of God; Behold, therefore I will bring strangers upon thee, the terrible of the nations: and they shall draw their swords against the beauty of thy wisdom, and they shall defile thy brightness. They shall bring thee down to the pit, and thou shalt die the deaths of them that are slain in the midst of the seas. Wilt thou yet say before him that slayeth thee, I am God? but thou shalt be a man, and no God, in the hand of him that slayeth thee.

However, we are urged not to drift away from God with our Scientific Pursuits according to the verse below -

Ecclesiastes 7:29 - Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many inventions.

Psalms 106:39 - Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions.

We are urged to consider following Christ more than our intellectual pursuits and riches from the following verses -

Hebrews 11:26 - Esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt:

1 Corinthians 1:25-31 - Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men. For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.

Daniel and Solomon were excellent examples of men who were blessed with much wisdom including science but who were good witnesses for God in their respective areas.
