2 Corinthians 3:1721st Century King James Version (KJ21)
17 Now the Lord is that Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. " freedom " * i love Romans 8:2
John 8:33-36New International Version (NIV)
33 They answered him, “We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say that we shall be set free?”

34 Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.35 Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever.36 So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed..
yes we are free from sin .
just how free are we ? and what are we free to do ?
can we enter a fruitful discussion ?

just how free are we ? and what are we free to do ?

We are free of the curse of the Law.

Gal 3:10b (NKJV) ... it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” And the curse of the law was death because (Eze 18:20a) “The soul who sins shall die."

By dying in human flesh and rose again from the grave, Jesus freed all of mankind from the curse of death.

1Co 15:55-57 “O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

We are free to do God's will without the fear of death because as a result of our sin because Jesus has defeated death and He forgives every sin of the repentant.

We are free to rejoice hope of glory which is Christ in us.

We are free to enter into the Kingdom of God without fear of being cast out as a stranger but, rather, received as a child of God, as the family of the King of kings.

We are free to rejoice in God our savior knowing He has set us free from the Law of sin and death.

I would submit to add that we are free to worship God now. (Romans 5:10) Enemies of God, and we were before He died, cannot worship God and be recognized.

Ezra,

All of what Jim Parker said and also, how about being free from the ravages of sin?

Secular people who feel free from God's watchful eye and are sorry for us because we're NOT free, run their lives in the sorriest of ways. (not all, but many). They think they're free because they could just do whatever they want. So they mature lacking in wisdom and good judgement.

Your lifestyle becomes your liberty but it's not liberty. Your drinking makes your liver sick. Your cigarettes make your lungs sick. Drugs make your life become ruined, affairs wear you out emotionally and psychologically, staying out late all the time makes you tired and sickly. Freedom to speak to people as you might makes you be not loved and causes hardship in families. Need I go on?

So while these persons feel free - they really are not. Those who love God and follow His ways are truly free. Free to avoid all of the above. Free to feel love and peace. (well, not always!).

So yes. I guess what I like to say is that we're all slaves to a power. Let it be God.

Choose this day whom you will serve.

how about being free from the ravages of sin?

Not gonna happen.
A alcoholic who gets saved may still die from a liver ruined by alcohol.
A sexually promiscuous person who gets saved will still die of the AIDS he got before being saved.
The rich and powerful will continue to oppress the poor even if the poor are saved.
The ravages of sin will continue until the resurrection at which time all will be raised imperishable and incorruptible.

1Co 15:51- 53 (RSV) Lo! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed. For this perishable nature must put on the imperishable, and this mortal nature must put on immortality.

Then the ravages of sin will no longer afflict the saved. THose who are not saved will experience a new ravage of sin.

John 5:28-29 (NKJV) ...; for the hour is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice and come forth—those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation. (Jesus' words)

Ezra,

I like Rollo Tamasi's question in no. 9
At the time of Psalm 33;12 it meant Israel.
Which nation is honoring God today?
Seems to me like more and more are abandoning Him.

Ooops. Maybe the question was for Jim Parker?

Don't be so serious.

I was talking in personal terms.
Do you not believe that trusting in God and His ways does indeed save us from much grief?

But to reply to you:
One could still die, yes, from aids after he gets saved.
OR he might get saved just in time not to get hiv.
OR he might not live that lifestyle to begin with.

God has the ability to change lives and/or to keep one on the right path which brings to the good.

If He didn't, we'd be just like everyone else - no power within - and what would be the point?
Just to get to heaven and no recompense down here?

That would be pretty sad.
Doesn't the Kingdom start here?

I think maybe you misunderstood my post.

This should get the comments flowing Romans 14:22
Hast thou faith? have it to thyself before God. Happy is he that condemneth not himself in that thing which he alloweth.

Roro

Are you piting 2 Corinthians 3:17 or is it 2 Corinthians 3:18 against Romans 14:22?

I do wish we could say what we mean and not just quote a verses.

Anyway, here's one from Romans, my favorite book:

Romans 6:1-2

Wondering

No, not pitting, i was not thinking of those verse you posted. the op said how free are we; I thought this verse was saying not every Christian that believes on Jesus is sin free the very day he/she is saved. It appears many think that. It might take some Christians, like Paul, a little longer to be free from sin. I thought the verse was self explanatory so I did not add to it
to try to explain it.imo this verse says one can struggle with sin after saved. Then you post Rom 6:1-2 without
any comments as I did. Sorry my style aggravates you.

Roro,
Your style doesn't aggravate me. It's not so easy to aggravate me. It would take some real effort!

I'm new here and I'm having a little difficult time because posters keep putting up scripture without saying what they think of it or even better, would be to just say what you think since we're all pretty bible savvy here and we'd pretty much know what they were talking about. It's not like I feel like I have to prove everything I say. See? Sometimes scripture is necessary however.

So okay. Now I know where you're at with this.

So are you saying there could come a time when a person is sin free?
Of course one can struggle with sin after being saved.
This is why of our own effort we'd never be saved or be able to get to heaven with God.
We have to trust and believe in the finished work of Christ who died to redeem us from sin and who is our righteousness.

Are we good with this?

Wondering

Im am saying I get the impression that some Christians think Christians are sin free once saved and my thoughts are Christians are not sin free. Jesus was the only sin free person I know of. I may have misunderstood the op I do that some time.
I do not think we can become sin free like Jesus. We are to try very hard though.
Hope this makes sense.
