Im am saying I get the impression that some Christians think Christians are sin free once saved and my thoughts are Christians are not sin free. Jesus was the only sin free person I know of. I may have misunderstood the op I do that some time.
I do not think we can become sin free like Jesus. We are to try very hard though.
Hope this makes sense.
Hi Roro

We're on the same page with this. No one is EVER sin free.
Jesus told us to be perfect like The Father in heaven is perfect. Of course, He didn't mean it - we'll never be perfect. But we're to try, just like you said.

The O.P. is not saying we are free from sin. What he's referring to is that we're free from the DOMINION of sin.
Once satan lorded it over us. He was the death of our spirit. He had power over us. God gave the Israelites the 10 commandments but they were unable to keep them because they had no power to. They were slaves to sin, they were slaves to the commandments.

Jesus freed us from this dominion. The cross of Jesus gives us the power to battle with satan - it gives us the power to remain faithful to God because we are not slaves to God but sons - and sons tend to WANT to please their Father.

We find it hard to be good because we have to be good.
But it's easier to be good because we want to be good.

Psa 33:12a (RSV) Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD,

iakov the fool

1Pe_2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:

1Pe_2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
This is so true yet so few Christians actually live it.

yes we are on the same page and thank you for the clarification.

Jim Parker Don't be so serious. I was talking in personal terms.
Do you not believe that trusting in God and His ways does indeed save us from much grief?

Absolutely.

But not all grief. The world is a sinful and violent place to live. Christians do not escape unscathed by that sin and violence. And when that sin and violence strikes a Christian home, it is serious and it is personal.

God has the ability to change lives and/or to keep one on the right path which brings to the good.
If He didn't, we'd be just like everyone else - no power within - and what would be the point?
Just to get to heaven and no recompense down here? That would be pretty sad.
Doesn't the Kingdom start here?

The kingdom does start right here in this world. Those who stay on the narrow path will fare better than those on the wide road. But it won't be all roses. Consider the plight of our brothers and sisters in areas controlled by ISIS or the Muslim Brotherhood. The men are beheaded and the women are gang raped and sold as sex slaves because they love the Lord. Those are ravages of sin, not of the believers, but, of their oppressors. In China, pastors are imprisoned and beaten and their congregations have to hide themselves from the authorities and meet in secret.

John 16:33 (NKJV) “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

You asked, "how about being free from the ravages of sin?"

That is the question to which I responded.

Hello Jim Parker

Of course, I was speaking in terms applicable to one individual person and how their relationship to God can change their life or keep it sane. I say "sane" because the world is getting crazy and maybe we're already there.

You're speaking of something more expansive and, of course, you're right. In this world you will have tribulation. I know a bit about that - as I'm sure we all do. Jesus has overcome the world. Only in Him can we seek peace since it's nowhere else because everywhere else the evil one participates in worldly affairs.

I've been considering many plights lately. I live close to them and am feeling surrounded lately. I've been thinking about the 1930's a lot lately. When much was happening but it was ignored - and evil reigned.

So I like to think about the detail. The personal. The miracles. The changes. When God reigns supreme - even if but for a while - since the good will eventually be attacked again by evil.
