life after 25

I know, 25 isn't old. 30 isn't old. 40 is apparently "the new 30." I don't know if that's true, but it sells magazines.

Still...I'm 30. Looking back a bit, thinking about it, I think life does change at and then after 2-5. Like that 70s song...All the Young dudes or something...

What do y'all think? I'm kind of under the impression that after 25, time goes by faster. And if you're in and of the world, things stop being as much "fun." I read this quote today, from some old Hollywood move starlet..."Of course we had fun. Everything is fun when you're young." Sounds kind of bitter, but I think she was on to something. Or that John Melloncamp song about Jack and Diane..."long after the thrill of living is gone..."

I'm blessed. I got saved at 28, and it was mostly God's doing, not mine (maybe that's always the case?). Its strange...now that I'm more and more "in the world, but not of it," things seem...if not "fun," then more meaningful. Actually, there's more fun in my life, too.

What about y'all? I know we talk about how God shows grace to those who are under the age of reason (whatever that is....I'm not real clear on that concpet), but do you think He shows grace to those in their youth, as well? And do you think there's a point, an age, at which life changes in such a way that you can look and say "Why yes...not old, but not young, either." ?

Just thinking out loud, as always...

My thoughts on the first part of your post are that if you are only 25 to 30 then don't worry your still young. Also time does go by faster the older you get. For example when you were 10 years old, if you ask your self if 5 years ago seemed like a long time ago you would say yes because that was half of your life ago. At age 50, 5 years ago would be a much smaller fraction of your total life span

I would disagree that everything is fun when you're young. There are some things that are fun, but not all we do and experience is fun, so right there it kind of blows the theory out of the water.

In carnal people - even some believers - I can see John Melloncamp's lyrics being true, but I don't see the spiritually mature thinking the thrill of living is gone - seriously, I know there are people who see it this way, I was one of them and I'm still young, I hope I never go back to that place either.

Yet, older people have told me that life actually becomes better as we age because we become wiser, stronger, more mature and all the things we used to think are fun, maybe won't seem fun when we're 50. The "fun" part becomes less and less about us and our desires and more and more about other people. Less about us, more about God sort of thinking and that will be way more fulfilling than having fun for the sake of fulfilling a fleshly desire.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi CE, you always have interesting thoughts and I will say it again that you are a good writer!

I see this as person's mindset, I would rather have joy and peace in my heart, then to pursue a goal to simply "have fun", that in itself seems empty and shallow, imo. Of course, having fun is not wrong, but hopefully as we age, those experiences become richer and have deeper meanings.

Generally speaking, I enjoy life, and even through the trials, the joy from the Lord is steadfast. There are others who are older and more mature than I, so perhaps they might see things differently, this is just my experience to date, I'm a little over 10 years older than yourself.

Bless you CE!

lord, 25, a pup. so is a 30 year old to me now and that was only 12 years ago for me

Oh my.... a math problem. :)

True, 25 is young, but it sure does seem like just yesterday.
come august I will have 25 years in the military and I remember the day I reported to ft.knox like yesterday with that sgt yelling at me not to lean against walls. and yelling at us while we unpacked clothing into cubbie holes in the old ww2 barrack modified for the occasion.

40 is Old?

ummmmmmm.

10 more years Buddy and you will be OLD............. cough... cough..

Hi CE, and yes I’ve come to enjoy life more as I age. God, please don’t make me young again as You did with Abraham and Sara. Gen 18:10.

James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

Desires or passions that were important to me in youth no longer are. The things before me are sweeter than that left behind; it’s akin to the idiom “Stop and smell the roses.”
