Life Lessons

Hi,
Over the years, I've put together a number of simple spiritual lessons I've discovered in things that we all see everyday, but rarely think about. I call them life lessons--for lack of a more original name, and I think some may find them interesting, and maybe even useful.
Anyway, I'm not sure what catagory these fit in, but unless I hear otherwise, this one seems to me to be the most fitting. Anyway, here is the first life lesson: (input welcome)

Cleaning the clutter

Over the years, we sometimes accumulate items for which we have no immediate use, but are reluctant to throw away, either on the off-chance we may need them later, or because of some irrational and misplaced sentimental value. Quite often this goes on until the items start to pile up in the garage. Often, a garage is so full of such clutter that the carâ€â€for which it was designedâ€â€cannot fit inside.

As time goes by, we realize that we really need to get rid of the objects, since they serve no purpose other than taking up space, but keep putting off taking any action. Instead, we continue to work around the junk, vowing all the while, that we will get around to disposing of it one dayâ€â€even as we continue to add more items.

In a similar way, we sometimes accumulate mental and emotional junk that does nothing more than clutter up our minds. It might be some wrong done to us that we refuse to let go of, a wrong of our own for which we have not yet forgiven ourselves, regrets or misgivings about bad choices we’ve made, or even morose ponderings of what might have been….if only.

Such emotional clutter should not be harbored by the child of God, for they are all negative, unfruitful things that cause stress, hinder our relationship with God, and--as with the garage--take up space in our hearts and minds that the Lord desires to fill with good and positive things that belong there.
It’s time to throw away the unfruitful clutter we have been holding onto. Simply refuse to let another day go by without disposing of it once and for all.

(And then take care of that garage)!

Yours in Christ,

Randy

Excellent post!

One thing about carrying garbage around for years is that it stinks and keeps other people away! God certainly doesn't want us warding people off with our garbage.

Randy,

I think this is a good post too. The only thing I would add to it is Scripture. The Lord bless you.

Get connected

The light bulb is a great invention. While the candle and oil lamp are still a good, reliable
source of light in the dark of night, the modern light bulb is very versatile: from
flashlights, to the headlights in our vehicles, to Christmas lights, light bulbs have a wide
range of applications.

But, unlike the older light sources, a light bulb cannot function unless it is connected to a
power source. Though a bulb may be completely sound physically, in every way, unless it taps
into a source of power, it is essentially useless.

In a spiritual sense, the same is true of people. Though we are physically complete, we cannot
fulfill our true purpose unless we are connected to our power source: God.
God designed man to live forever. But because of Adam’s fall in the garden of Eden, man lost
his power source--the Spirit of God, and became dysfunctional. When man lost his connection to
God because of sin, he lost the capacity to fulfill the purpose for which he was designed--a
spiritual relationship with God.

Jesus repaired that connection: taking the Father by one hand, and us by the other, He has
completed the circuit of the Holy Spirit, infusing us with God’s power.

The light bulb has no light of its own--only the capacity for illumination. It was designed as
a thing completely dependent upon a power source for its purpose and function. And in the same
way, we cannot fulfill the true purpose for which we were designed until we are indwelled and
empowered by the Spirit of God.

Just as the mysterious, unseen power of electricity can be manifested as light that drives
back the darkness and reveals the dangers it conceals, the power of God's Spirit is manifested in the Light of the Gospel.

Yet if we, like the bulb, are not connected to the power source, we cannot fulfill the task of
shining our light into a world of spiritual darkness.

A light bulb not connected to its power source is no more functional than one that is broken
or burned out. Check your connection.

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto
God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are
sanctified by faith that is in me. (Acts 28:18)

Yours in Christ,

Randy
