When you ask why and what is the reason in this situation you are not asking for wisdom, you are asking for knowledge. And yes we should ask questions but in this you are asking people and probably God also for answers that no human can give you and God has chosen not to. If God chooses not to give us an answer it is because we don't need that answer. We have no business trying to probe into things God has hidden.
We can learn some things about God however in His choosing Jesus's ancestors. We see the Savior is to come from the particular people He chose to reveal Himself to, the Hebrews. We see God does not restrict His salvation to only those people but through them to all nations. We see that God saves sinners. We see that God does the choosing.
