1) Looking for Daniel

Daniel 1:3,4

https://biblehub.com/daniel/1-3.htm

- So Daniel is an Israelite, he is young, without any defect, of good appearance, well-educated. He must be able to learn the language of the Chaldeans.

- He doesn’t belong to ordinary people!

- He is a special one!

- We can say a chosen one!

- But he is not alone!

- He will also be chosen by God!

2) Looking for Daniel

Daniel 1:5

Biblehub Daniel 1:5

- As he is going to be part of the Babylonian administration, he belongs to a privileged group with privileges (food and beverages).

- We can imagine that he is going to receive the best training!

- We can see the same today!

- So there is no big difference!

Daniel 1: 6,7

Biblihub Daniel 1:6

Biblehub Daniel 1:7

- Imagine the situation: you are young and you go to live in a foreign country with different traditions and a different religion!

- Well, the four young men can count on each other but they must live among Babylonian so it is quite easy to be influenced!

- A strong will is necessary if you don’t want to be influenced and keep your own traditions!

4) Looking for Daniel

Daniel 1:8

Biblehub Daniel 1:8

- Here we are only told about Daniel!

- Is he the one with the stronger mind and will?

- But he knows what he wants!

- It means he has received a good education!

- But it also means this education influences positively his heart and his mind!

- It is a good example for parents to think about!

- School is not going to educate your child!

- Television or the internet are not going to educate your child!

- The street is not going to educate your child!

- As parents you are the only one who can educate properly your child and if you don’t do it they will receive mainly negative influence!

- So be careful of other influences!

- When it’s too late it’s too late and you can only put the blame on you!

- Of course, if you do your best but it doesn’t work it is another story!

- What is important is to do what we have to do!

- And tell them about the Bible and God has a positive influence!

- But you must also be good examples!

- Don’t do like the Pharisees or the religious leaders!

- It doesn’t work!

Anyone can learn a second language especially if one is emmersed in it. Doesn’t take special intelligence.
- He doesn’t belong to ordinary people!
He was ordinary same as you and I. His exception is that he determined not to break the law of God and defile himself, even if against the popular culture.
- He is a special one!

- We can say a chosen one!
No, he was ordinary same as we are. He just determined to follow God, same as we can do. Saying he was special gives us the false security that we needn’t make such effort or pay that price.
- But he is not alone!
No, he had three friends who equally were so dedicated.
- He will also be chosen by God!
True. Why? Because he devoted himself to God.

The eyes of the Lord go to and fro throughout the earth that they might find the one whose heart is completely His (like Daniel) that He might fully support him.

Originally Answered: How did the Jews go from a Hebrew Speaking people to an Aramaic speaking people in their Exile to Babylon?
Excellent question: Your question basically answered itself! When the Jews were exiled to Babylon, Aramaic was the language in which official documents, education, and daily commerce were written and conducted. Immigrants from anywhere generally learn the language of their adopted country, it may take a few generations, but that is normally what happens, unless said immigrants are secluded in a remote village.

Another thing that helped is that the period’s Hebrew and Aramaic share many grammatical similarities, so learning Aramaic would be relatively easy (think the difference between Spanish and Portuguese).

What language did the Jews speak in Babylon?

Aramaic

Aramaic had replaced Hebrew as the language of the Jews as early as the 6th century bce. Certain portions of the Bible—i.e., the books of Daniel and Ezra—are written in Aramaic, as are the Babylonian and Jerusalem Talmuds.

Why did Jews stop speaking Aramaic?

From Greek conquest to Diaspora

The destruction of Persian power, and its replacement with Greek rule
helped the final decline of Hebrew to the margins of Jewish society. Writings from the Seleucid and Hasmonaean periods show the complete supersession of Aramaic as the language of the Jewish people.

Why did Jesus speak Aramaic and not Hebrew?

There's scholarly consensus that the historical Jesus principally spoke Aramaic, the ancient Semitic language which was the everyday tongue in the lands of the Levant and Mesopotamia. Hebrew was more the preserve of clerics and religious scholars, a written language for holy scriptures.

Is Aramaic older than Hebrew?

Aramaic is the oldest continuously spoken and written language in the Middle East, even older than written Hebrew and Arabic. It is among the oldest written languages in the world. Approximately three thousand years ago, Aramaic speakers were mainly located in the Near East.

For an English speaker, Akkadian is quite challenging. There are almost no cognates, and the sentence structure is very different from English. The writing system (cuneiform) is also challenging because it has about 400 plus glyphs representing sounds as well as concepts (somewhat like Japanese, although with fewer characters).

You’ll have an advantage if you speak Hebrew or Arabic. The difficulty level for English speakers is probably closer to Arabic.

How long does it take to learn cuneiform?

12 years

Mesopotamian education largely centered around literacy. This could be said for nearly any culture, but it was particularly true for the difficult of the written language. In the 3rd millennium, cuneiform writing became quite complex. It took 12 years to learn the cuneiform marks and the general knowledge of scribes.

- Good job!

- Yes, anyone can learn a second language, definitely!

- It is getting more complicated!

- Now if we go back to the book of Daniel, Chapter 1 verse 3, we are told about young people without any defect, of good appearance, they possess wisdom, knowledge, discernment and have been judged of being able to serve in the king’s palace!

- Thus they were looking for people with special intelligence and no ordinary people!

- And the verse 4 explains why: they were to be taught not only the language of the Chaldeans but also the writing!

- They were supposed to be trained for three years and then they had to enter the king’s service!

- Learning a language is one thing but writing it is another story!

- And it was not for pleasure but to work in the administration, that’s also another story!

- Now the first answer speaks about Spanish and Portuguese to explain that it was easier for the Hebrews because of grammar similitudes!

- But the problem is the writing was completely different!

- Now of course, it is easier to learn Portuguese if you speak Spanish because it is the same alphabet!

- But take English and Greek with a different alphabet, or English and Russian with a different alphabet!

- But if you take Chinese and Japanese and Korean, at first the three had the same alphabet but then it changed because the pronunciation is too different!

- Now coming back to the Bible and to the last answer, Daniel tells about a three-year training compared to 12 years to learn the cuneiform marks and the general knowledge of scribes !

- So yes, he was a special one but he was not alone to be a special one !

Where is the evidence of this and how does this factor into the discussion?
- Now if we go back to the book of Daniel, Chapter 1 verse 3, we are told about young people without any defect, of good appearance, they possess wisdom, knowledge, discernment and have been judged of being able to serve in the king’s palace!

No, not special intelligence. High IQ does not even begin to generate wisdom and often the opposite. So no, they were such because they were dedicated to God. We see this in the disciples, mostly simply hand laborers. Yet they wrote theology that is beyond what the most intelligent today can write.
- And the verse 4 explains why: they were to be taught not only the language of the Chaldeans but also the writing!

- They were supposed to be trained for three years and then they had to enter the king’s service!

- Learning a language is one thing but writing it is another story!
If you have 3 full years with your life depending upon you learning it and NOTHING ELSE to do, you learn it. Today it would be a hobby. Then it was their life.
- And it was not for pleasure but to work in the administration, that’s also another story!

- Now the first answer speaks about Spanish and Portuguese to explain that it was easier for the Hebrews because of grammar similitudes!

Again, anyone learning cuneiform today does so as a hobby and It is not fully time. Their life does not depend upon it.
- So yes, he was a special one but he was not alone to be a special one !
He was not special EXCEPT that he dedicated his life and what he did to God and was determined to obey Him, cost what it may. That is special but not beyond anyone today.

Anyone who determines to obey God is special. That is not beyond anyone and we will be judged on that basis.

- AND NOWHERE IN THE BIBLE A MAN IS CALLED VERY PRECIOUS MAN!
Can you please supply the verse where he is called "precious?" Thanks.

Do you mean "And he said, “O man greatly beloved, fear not! Peace be to you; be strong, yes, be strong!”" The Hebrew word means "beauty" or here "greatly beloved." This is different than precious. Even Jesus was not called "precious" but his son in whom He was well pleased.

" PARENTS " ?
If you are speaking to this current generation then you must mean , PARENT ?
Not sure of the statistics in France but in the USA we are about 15 years beyond the point where the majority of children are being raised by one individual.
At that trend has only increased.
And increasingly that one individual of account is not even involved biologically in the birth of the child, a grandparent or some other relative often being left the responsibility of the child while the parent carries on with the party everyday , rock and roll all night lifestyle.
This is why abortion is considered so vitally important to this current generation .
Sacrificing the child upon the altar of the party all night, rock and roll everyday god being seen as a viable final solution.
The downward spiral of where the world is has accelerated far beyond the generation you hope to reach with you good parenting advice.
This advice you are giving would have been helpful in 1963 , but we are far beyond that now .
Where were you in 1963 when we needed you ?
