Bible Study Luke 1:59-60

Luke 1:59-60
KJV(i) 59 And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father. 60 And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

59 It was part of the law to circumcise after 8 days. It was tradition at this time to name them even though they could have before and often times a family members name was chosen for them unless God tells them to name them something else which is what happened hear. Zechariah means the Lord recalled.

60 The parents always have the final say about the name of their child second the mother then first the father. John means God is gracious. Elizabeth knew the meaning of this name and because God had given her a son at her age that is what she felt.
 
The angel told Zacharias , not Elizabeth, that the child would be named John and Zacharias was obedient unto the Lord, even though Elizabeth at the moment did not understand why Zacharias would use a name outside of the family names. Even in the simplest things we are to be obedient to God even thou we may not know why for a time, but revealed in Gods timing.
