Bible Study Luke 2:16-20

Luke 2:16-20
KJV 16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. 17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. 18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

Luke 2:16-20Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
16 They hurried off and found both Mary and Joseph, and the baby who was lying in the feeding trough. 17 After seeing them, they reported the message they were told about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary was treasuring up all these things in her heart and meditating on them. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had seen and heard, just as they had been told.

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

16 They hurried they did wait till morning when the sheep would have been more safe or wait so someone else could watch the sheep, they left. We should be willing to drop everything we do to go to Christ and follow Him. A feeding trough was the first bed for the King, this shows the humble beginnings Christ had, The King came to earth and was placed in a trough, He who created the world was born in a place that man would never be put in.

17 After going then they told, they told what they saw about the angel and about the King having been born, the news of Messiah coming would spread because of these shepherds, we are also to share the news of Christ the gospel, with others.

18 The news of Christ will bring many reactions some are bad, few will be good. Amazement is a good reaction, it means what God did is sinking in and they may accept it as Truth.

19 Mary and Joseph may have both doubted what God was using them for, doubt often comes with God’s calling because we are unable to do God’s calling it is things we can not do the impossible but with Him it is made possible.

20 When we meet Christ we praise God, praise is something only God is due. Praise is something is we owe God but we can never pay the debt with praise this is why Christ came because we could not pay the debt of sin, He brought hope a hope the shepherds saw, a good not stop praising God over.

Not sure what to comment on, I am not convinced Mary doubted, I think she had legitimate questions. Pretty much though how it went down.

If you noticed the shepherds were the first to receive the good news and then went out to proclaim to the world that Messiah was born. How did they know it was Messiah, because Gods spirit (angel) revealed this to them. Mary bared witness, Joseph bared witness, the Shepard's bared witness, John the Baptist bared witness, we bare witness as it is only by Gods Spirit that reveals himself to us through His spoken word. Nothing can come to us unless it is revealed from Gods Holy Spirit.

Mat 11:25 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
Mat 11:26 Even so, Father: for so it seemed good in thy sight.
Mat 11:27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.
