Bible Study Luke 6

Maybe if I could nail some good fruit to my branches I could get labeled as a good tree...Ya think ?

I think it's been tried before. :)

There are many people who hang fruit on branches and try to fool others. But either the fruit rots, or the fruit is found to be completely fake when it is eaten.

A good tree will always produce good fruit on its branches. Never fails.

No. That would be what I call works.
Not the works Jesus wants out of our love for Him and because we're a part of the Kingdom.
The works must come from the strength that is in the trunk and flows to the branches.
Those are also works, but works that please God.

The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. (ESV)

These two statements don't seem congruent. Can you explain?
I do not see how they seem incongruent. :confused
A good person does good things.
An evil person does evil things.

Jim Parker posted a Chopper Home Run in post # 8 Here it is....
That statement is the greatest lifestyle that a true Christian can live. It captures the most wonderful fruit that Christ in us can produce.....Good one Jim. Bravo.
We are created in Christ Jesus to be like Him. 1Jo 3:2
To be like Jesus, Who is God, is to love all others, friend and enemy, MORE than oneself.
That can only be don by the filling of the Holy Spirit and by continual, willful practice in insisting in being a living demonstration of God's love.

43. For no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, 44 for each tree is known by its own fruit. For figs are not gathered from thornbushes, nor are grapes picked from a bramble bush.45 The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. (ESV)

What can we surmise out of this passage?

Can it relate to how we treat others (such as a spouse?)
So....
These verses came to mind when I read your OP. It seems good fruit may be more than just duty or outward appearances.

So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you. And which of you, having a servant plowing or tending sheep, will say to him when he has come in from the field, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’? But will he not rather say to him, ‘Prepare something for my supper, and gird yourself and serve me till I have eaten and drunk, and afterward you will eat and drink’? Does he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I think not. So likewise you, when you have done all those things which you are commanded, say, ‘We are unprofitable servants. We have done what was our duty to do.’”
Luke 17:6-10 NKJV

“When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

“Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
