Malware on this site

One of my Microsoft computers warned me that it found malaware on this site. Sure enough, one of those infamous pop-up boxes soon appeared. So, I'm now using Android which does not get such things so I can post here. Once again, a solid, undeniable argument why Microsoft is on it's way out and will have trouble competing with the other relatively virus-free OS's.

I see that nobody's replying to this. Must be all the Microsofters were scared out of the place. This is a prime example why I'm so hard on that OS by the comments I make all the time. I'm posting right now using a cheap netbook using Android and you won't find any viruses on this thing which proves to me one thing that Microsoft has been snowing us all these years: it can be done despite the belief they put out that it cannot be done.

I googled this virus and did not find much. But it seems to be related to the NYC area (zip code). I hope this isn't predictive of something. But this site does not seem to be doing much about it or even saying anything in their defense. Hmmmmm makes one wonder.

Actually, I think that the powers-that-be have pretty well stopped whatever it was that was going on.

I've used a couple of browsers as a test, and none are doing the crazy re-direct any more. :)

As far as the OS...there's a story that Jesse James was asked one time: "Jesse, why do you rob banks?" He answered: "Because that's where the money is".

A virus/worm/trojan/malware can be written for any OS...just happens to be that Billy Gates' system is the most prolific, so that's where the hackers attack.

Just read recently that there have been several trojans written specifically for Mac OS...so it'll just be a matter of time I reckon before Android and all the others draw the attention of the evil-doers. :lol

I'm still getting the redirect when I initially start on this site every session but it only happens once and usually I curtail it before it can redirect by clicking the stop button up top.

Hmmm...That's curious! I just used Firefox and didn't get the "Attack Site" warning that I've gotten over the past couple of days....

If you're still getting a re-direct, might want to PM one of the leadership team and let them know that something is still going on with the site. :)

Tim, I believe no one was responding to your thread, because very few people were responding to anything at all, and the other thread about this situation started accumulating more thoughts. I have heard that several key people including the site owner have been working behind the scenes on this problem. I agree that it would be best to have more info shared, but I think everyone is more or less unsure about anything here.

This is the first time I've been on using something other than my phone since I first ran into the issue. I've used my laptop w/ Firefox, and now I'm using my iPad with Safari. I'm unloading these soon, so I'm willing to take the chance. Neither one is giving an indication of any threat right now,and that seems to be a good thing. I might have received false info, but I understood that this was the Black Hole and that this virus originates from Russia. Whatever difference that makes...

As anyone can tell, posting is at a minimum now, and several of the staff have not been on at all to even do basic modding. Hopefully, this all gets behind us, and we can move on. But not everyone is going to trust this site as much as others.[/b]

You're dead wrong about more viruses on Microsoft because it's more used. Currently, Mac and Android holds the market for cell phones and portable devices so viruses should be attacking them. But they aren't. However when windows 8 is put on these same devices in the future, I guarantee that "all of a sudden" people will unexpectly get viruses in their cell phones that they never experienced before.

Explorer, Safari and Firefox all redirected me. Tonight safari said oaky to the site. As for Windows Vs Mac... I'm on a PC and my wife uses a Mac. I'm still on the fence about my next laptop. In the grand scheme of things I think that Microsoft, Disney and Starbucks are colluding to take over the world. Sooner or later Apple will get sucked in. :lol

Well at least you are on top of it, and notice, people, he is not using Microsoft to do it as that would be like the fox watching the hen house. As for me, don't worry as i am using Android that is not affected in the least by this virus. And if i post in the future, i can also use my Linux live CD on my computer which is totally imposible to get any virus on the computer like sickly Microsoft does.

I agree that Linux, Unix, etc. are a heck of a lot harder to infect...no doubt!

But there is no OS that's immune...(remember Kaiten, Rexob, and what was it...Badbunny...for Linux?)

But, everyone has an opinion I reckon....:lol

(And no, I'm not defending MS...just sayin')

I'm proud to say my Linux (one of them) is virtually virus proof. :lol

To write a virus for it one would have to have a copy of it, and since there are only four people in the known world with a copy of my Linux... well you get the point.

Anyways, I think the thing is gone. I have been looking in source and just playing with a few different PCs all visiting this site and no more redirects.

To play it safe, I'm only coming to this site using Linux (or one of my Android devices) for now and not one of my Microsoft computers.

And again, this is why I am so critical of Microsoft. Grant it, the OS can do some amazing things. But honestly. Can any Microsoft user truly say in their heart of hearts that they don't constantly fear viruses and is like continually walking on eggshells? Even with updated virus protection one is not immuned, if I may challenge the critics who say they have no problem because they are updated and "don't click on stupid things". One does not have to click on stupid things. One time I got a virus by SIMPLY looking up a picture of a rat using Google's image search because we had rats at work and I wanted to become a little more educated. And when I do click on a site, I am smart enough not to click on something that is named weird as if they are on drugs or something. This was a legitimate site with a normal sounding name. And yet..... got a virus. Tell me what my transgression was? I have none. The OS is just not secure. (yes I had the updates, too).

And for those Microsoft supporters who boast they never get them, I must still ask do you really love to do a virus scan once a week and waste an hour or more of your time when you could be doing other computing?

I think this forum virus was a real wake-up call, and as the admin said many people stayed away because they do have Microsoft (and I thought they said their virus protection is so good). Meanwhile, here's ol' Tim here plugging away at the comments using a portable device without fear and trepidation.

For the umpteenth time, I will make a dire prediction: There are more viruses for Microsoft because of the nature of the OS, not because more people use it. If the latter was true, then the portable devices used today without Microsoft would be infected like crazy because more people use OTHER OS on those devices. Yet we do not hear about any great number of viruses. But when Microsoft tries their new OS Windows 8 on these devices, we will see a proliferation of viruses on cell phones even. People will be surprised because they never dealt with this before. Like I said before, it's going to be awfully frustrating for a teenage daughter broken down on a deserted back road and when she tries to call home gets Chinese porn instead on her Microsoft OS phone from a virus. People are not going to put up with it. I rather have a dependable OS that does less rather than one with bells and whistles but I have to walk on eggshells to use it and it's down a lot.
