Is that just another word for bread? And do people still eat it? I've never heard of it before until reading about it in the Bible.

Well I know manna was liken that of the coriander seed you can find that in Ex. 16:31 and Num.11:7. I know some Rabbi's believe it was the coriander seed that God use for the children of Israel mentioned in, Ex.16:14,15.
You can still find coriander seed today as a spice, to me it has a lemon scent to them.
I've done some research on this...
Apparently it's some kind of product of a type of bee that fits the explanation.
But the size of swarm necessary to feed 6 million people? It would have been similar to a plague...
And bees don't travel until after sunrise. (Dawn takes hours before sunrise in the area they were traveling...it starts as the sun hits parts of India several thousands of miles away)
It was good stuff...but it too can get monotonous. That's why God sent the birds for them to eat...then they got all worried and greedy and got an appropriate curse.
They got the message from the resulting plague.
That time in the desert trained the Israelites to be perfectly obedient. You did as you were told or else you died painfully.
Forty years of the lessons on obedience don't evaporate overnight.
I didn't really understand it either...I get everything that you're trying to say except for the bee stuff.
I didn't really understand it either...
But it apparently is some kind of blend of honey and regurgitation or excrement that a particular bee makes. And apparently these bees are raised in hives that are surrounded by plastic sheeting so this stuff can be consumed. (As well as the honey) and it isn't produced in the quantities needed to feed anyone.
But since these bees don't produce a lot of honey they aren't farmed very often.
Just one of those factoids you run across and run off with.
All the "miracles" were actually naturally occurring events with explanations. But their timing was extraordinary. Since God created the natural order...He didn't feel the need to go beyond it to accomplish His wishes.
I said that it wasn't honey either.I couldn't have been honey. It was more likely bee pollen and the pollen of plants. The manna didn't fall from the heavens, it was formed with the morning dew. What they collected was the residue that was left after the morning dew had evaporated.

The manna only lasted one day - except on the Sabbath.
How could it be physically different on that day?
Manna is literally Hebrew for, "What is it?"
This sort of does not make sense to me. It kind of had to be miraculous. If the manna was a naturally occurring substance, but it only lasted for one day, then how could this same naturally occurring substance then last for two days on the sabbath?
“Doom! It’s Doomsday!
I’m as good as dead!
Every word I’ve ever spoken is tainted—
blasphemous even!
And the people I live with talk the same way,
using words that corrupt and desecrate.
And here I’ve looked God in the face!
The King! God-of-the-Angel-Armies!”
Greetings, @Edward!
There is a growing segment of our community that attempts to explain all things under the guise of
Religious Naturalism
I'm NOT speaking for others here. But the converse of "all things continue as they were from the beginning," is, "all thing from the beginning are as they're seen today," right? It's okay to explain things but let's not forget the need for faith. The belief in the unseen of this world includes how God created and interacted with us in order to progressively reveal himself. For instance, if it were not for that man, Jesus, none would know the Father, our God. None could know Him. Not one.
Faith is the substance of things... oops, church-speak again. Quick translation: It is okay to be sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. That would include miracles. You, yourself, are one such miracle. I know your testimony and am glad to see you here. The living word of God in YOUR mouth, sir? That is another "whatness," (another manna) as it is when found in mine. Was that a type / anti-type of Jesus, our "Bread from Heaven"?
So if it starts raining manna in my house, I'll understand what's happening and start making us some pancakes!
