Hope I've put this in the right place- first post.

I work at a very liberal high school program in Wyoming, and part of the curriculum is a section on evolution. Here's why I don't agree.

Humans share 98% of the DNA that apes (chimps) have. That means that "only" 2% had to mutate in a positive way in order to do so.

There are Three billion (3,000,000,000) base pairs of DNA in every primate, human or ape. So,

3,000,000,000 X .02 = 60,000,000.

Evolutionists belive that they have approximately four million years to work with. So,

60,000,000divided by 4,000,000 = 15 positive mutations PER YEAR to get from ape to human.

Fifteen per year. How many do you hear about yearly, if even one?

Godspeed,

Frank

What does this mean? Where did you get this number?

Fifteen per year. How many do you hear about yearly, if even one?

Right, because "not hearing about" somehow equals "is not happening".

Edit: Do you keep up on reading new scientific journals, or other peer-reviewed articles, or internet-published scientific works? That might explain why you don't hear about any new developments in human evolution.

Even then, as you pointed out, evolution requires a very long time to make notable changes in humans. But we have seen some trends regardless. Our brains are getting larger, for one, and our dental structures are gradually changing.
