I was hoping one of the websites would show a map of the affected area, superimposed with a map showing the jet stream at the time of this phenomenon. Haven't found it yet.

Agreed. Considering that the eastern half of Washington state has been affected (from one of the maps I did see), I'd rather not read of guesses (from Oregon, from Nevada, from volcanic eruptions in Japan or South America, etc).

This is an unusual phenomenon and I'd enjoy reading more details/information about it.

The soil in the rain was very fine sand and dust from the Summer Lake region of Oregon. Unusual wind patterns kept the dust cloud airborne for about 12 hours, after which it passed under a rainstorm, and fell.

So that's what it was, and the sand gave the rain a milky look.

Thought this was going to be a song title written by Prince when he was a toddler. {wink}
Just at first blush it appears to have what in the ocean would be sea foam. If true, we have bigger problems than we may have thought about global climate change (whatever the cause).
