I made the mistake of upgrading my Mini Opera on my Blackberry Curve from version 4.2 to 5.1. What a horrible mistake!! They have some nice features, like having tabs which enable you to have different sites open simultaneously like on a desktop pc and a speed dial page with icons for your faves. At first it looked like a great thing. The only (huge) problem was that it uses a pointer, and it doesn't function well on the Curve model. The pointer flits around a lot like it's on some sort of grid, and to get it over a small icon (like the last unread post icon) is sometimes difficult, if not impossible. :bigfrown
Opera 4.2 doesn't have a pointer. You just scroll down a page and it highlights links as you go. Very nice! So, I thought it would be easy to just re-download the old version. mmmmm... not so much. They only have the latest version available to download, and every time I downloaded what I thought was 4.2, it reverted to 5.1 and I had to cancel out. Finally, I found a zip file that I had to download to my Blackberry Desktop, and install it over to my phone. This took me several days, and I thought I was going to lose it!
But all's well now. I have my 4.2, and I'm back to easy functionality. :yes I really like Mini Opera 4.2, but I'm still anxious for Firefox to release a version compatible with the Blackberry to give it a try. Problem there, though, is it will be in a beta version for a while, I'm sure. And I don't like being a guinea pig for a new product's testing ground.
For those with other models of Blackberry or other devices who don't mind pointers to move around a page, you might really like Mini Opera 5.1. My friend has a Blackberry Torch, and the pointer glides around the screen nicely. As for me and my Curve... good riddance!
