MOBIL ONE OIL

I use Mobil One Oil and I swear buy it. I throw papers and put 30,000 miles a year on my Nissan and I also use synthentic tranny and gear oil( usually mobil, put I have used royal purple). My truck has a 5 speed. I have no visible sludge, I change my oil at 3500 to 4000 miles. i do it myself. If I didn't use my truck like i do i would go to 5000 to 7000 mile oil changes. What do you all think of Mobil one oil.

When it first came out many, many years ago, they were claiming 20-25,000 miles between changes. I assume that was unrealistic. :lol

I certainly wouldn't go that far either, but the best way to tell when to change the oil and filter is lab tests of a sampling of the engine oil out a your car. That aint cheap though.

I use Mobil 1 in my Altima but it isn't that great as far as synthetics go. It's still good but not as good as some others. I get it changed at the dealer every 6k km. I use Amsoil in my tranny.

Is your altima manual or automatic? Some automatic trannys use synthentic fluids. Mercon V,SP, are all
synthentic fluids used in ford vehicles.

4sp auto. :sad I can't remember if it's just Altimas or Nissans in general but Amsoil is about the only synthetic that is recommended for the transmission. The transmissions have some very specific requirements so most guys stick with the OEM recommended stuff.

Actually the synthentic tranny fluids are mercon v,sp,sd and for the heavy truck side (allison tranny) transynd which is made by citgo( maybe somone else makes that one). The mercon series are made by valvoline, mobile, amsoil, and host of others.

So Jason, how much are you paying a quart, for the Mobil 1?
i buy the gallon jugs, at about 40 bucks, sometimes advanced auto has deals, ie mobil one with filter for 30 bucks.

My dad was using the stuff since it first came out years ago, but I think now he is using Lucas

The only way i will go to lucas is to send an oil sample from my truck and another truck that is used in the same harsh conditions.

I like Castrol. Been using it for over 25 years and I change the oil every 5,000 miles.

I've recently started using Lucas on my high mileage cars and it seems to help with mpg as well as engine noise at startup. My Malibu has right at 127,000 miles and running strong. :thumb
