I remember growing up, I had a cat that was indoor/outdoor and she came inside with this swollen lump under her jaw. We weren't sure what had happened, but over a few days it grew to be large and swollen. We were putting some stuff on it, not sure what we did for her, but it popped and fluids/pus came out of it. It scabbed over, healed, and never had an issue with it again. Not sure if an irritant like a plant or something got caught or maybe some splinters.
It could be a swollen lymph node or something. Microparticle Colloidal Silver in their water and sprayed under their chin probably could probably help. I know you'll do your best for your cat, though. It's never fun seeing them ill =(
