Movie industry and fortune

I've got a dream to become a famous movie director/writer. Is it alright to pray God to make my dream come true? I've always wanted to be part of music or movie industry.

Is it alright to dream about fortune and the fame and ask little push from God? The Bible says "Mark 10:25 It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.". My mom told me that rich people goes to Heaven if they've put their faith in Christ and won't be slaves of money so is it okay to dream about fortune? If I was famous and rich, I wouldn't be slave of the money for sure because I've become a Christian and I always wanted to donate somewhere that it needs help. Thanks, Benjamin, God Bless you :pray.

Many are the plans in a man's heart, but it is the LORD's purpose that prevails. Proverbs 19:21
I think there's nothing wrong to be part in music and film industry. God puts people in that field in order to reach out people in that field also. But you should also check your heart really well if that's the path you really want to pursue. Take time to observe the people who've been there and learn from their mistakes. And as for dreaming fame and fortune, what for? i mean is that really your motive in joining there? if that is, then please reconsider coz you're heading for a fall.

Hey thanks for your reply! Actually, I'm not dreaming about fortune, I wish I was just famous Movie Director but my point is that is it okay to dream about private jet and a big house? It's everyone's dream, but is it alright to dream about it?

It could be problematical, Benjamen... at least it would be for me, if I let my mind go there too much.

We always need to remember to seek first His kingdom and His righteousness... And, we also need to do all to the glory of God, which means giving our best to anything we do...

If a by-product of your best efforts at directing movies is to become both rich and famous... and you give the glory of it to the Lord... no problems.

Just always keep aware that the Lord judges the heart. This is true for ditch diggers as it is for movie stars...and even church secretaries.

Handy is right, but also think of it from a practical perspective.

The way to happiness is not just great money. You want to do something for a living that you enjoy! And there is NOTHING wrong with setting your goals high, by all means SET THEM AS HIGH AS YOU WISH!

I have always believed and have even experienced two great truths:

1) Do what you like doing and are GOOD at, the money will come.
2) The only way to be truly happy and well off financially, is to work for yourself.

But seek God first and foremost, I have a friend who has sought after the Lord his whole life. He is retiring next year at 67 - and makes VERY good money in the auto industry as an engineer. This is profound, because he has only a high school education and one year of tech school. He never made much money until his mid 40's.

He never stopped praying, he never stopped obeying and he never stopped learning - but he's never been back to school since tech school in the 60's. Tom will retire next year with enough money to REALLY enjoy his last years on earth.

Tom would tell you:
Don't limit yourself. Don't listen to naysayers. But LISTEN to God, pray always, do what He would have you to do every day, EVEN IF IT CONTRADICTS what people adive you to do. Again LISTEN TO THE LORD. Do not EVER compromise your principals.

Thanks for replies! :) I don't really want to become a movie director just because of fortune and fame, I'd like to be a director because I love movies and I'm into directing and writing. It wouldn't matter even if I was so poor that I couldn't affor my bread but if I had my movies on, I'd be thankful, that's the thing I'm looking for.

Ofcourse I'm dreaming that if I had money and become famous but it's just dreaming, I know that money doesn't make you happy and if I was poor I could be just as happy as I would be rich because I still would be doing the thing that I've always wanted.

I'm just wondering in a Christian perspective that is it alright to still dream about fortune and fame? Not because I need it. But is it okay to dream of fortune and fame in Christian perspective?

If I had to choose between famous and fortune I'd take famous
If I had to choose between Famous, Fortune and Passage to Heaven I'd take the ticket to heaven.
If I had to choose between Fortune and opportunity to make movies without income, I'd take opportunity to make movies, because it's the thing I want. :) Thanks for spending time on this, haha I'm so tires it's midnight here and I haven't slept much because my little sister is waking up in the morning and she starts screaming and then .... I'm awake, atleast half way.. :) Thanks ben;)

I'm an avid listener and reader of the financial consultant and author, Dave Ramsey, and he often has advice I agree with. He says to find what you love to do, and make your hobby your career. You'll never work a day in your life. (I wish I had the guts to take it.) He stresses being realistic. You don't decide one day you'll drop everything and be a survival guide if you've never been outside your neighborhood.

I encourage you to pursue this career and to make good decisions to get you to that place. BUT, have a plan B because there aren't many movie directors financially self sustaining. Most importantly, do it because you will love to direct, not for money OR for fame. Those are worldly ambitions. Being rich doesn't make you evil, and being poor doesn't make you holy in and of themselves. The heart, the heart, the heart. Chase His Kingdom.

Sometimes a believer jumps off a high tower and asks God to build them some wings on the way down.
This prayer is not answered before you hit the bottom.

The prayer that God will always answer, is this one.
"God what do you want me to do with my life......show me"

And regarding your desire to be a director who is rich...
Well, God is not against directors and he is not against directors having money, unless HE is not first in their lives and plans.

If you are able to put God first, no matter what.
If you can lock into this and you know you are not playing around.
Then if you exist there, then he will give you the dreams of your heart.
In other words, he will put HIS DREAMS in your heart., and his dreams will fit you perfectly, as he knows how to satisfy you much better then you know how to satisfy you.

follow your dreams, you'll regret it in the end if you didn't even try. even getting to heaven won't change that, i promise. if you rise to new heights and live out your dream, you can use your art to reach people and tell them about christ. if on the other hand you are corrupted by getting to be a big shot, you might be hellbound anyway.

let me ask you: do you really want to be plastered on media pictures and do interviews and wear sunglasses, or do you wan't to learn the art of drama, cinema and writing to move people and touch their hearts. concentrate on those and lose the planes and houses, of course ambition and ruthless self promotion is still needed if you want a larger audience than your mom and your friends :D
