Movies Every Christian Should See

You did get the point and thank you.

I didn't realize that was your point. If thats the case, why suggest any movie, because not one movie anyone can name is going to hold a candle to God's Word. Thats just stating the obvious, not making a point.

I understand what you are saying about the book, but this thread is about movies not books. But I guess I'm still confused about your point, at least 90% of the movies don't refer to God directly so are you essentially saying that there shouldn't even be a list or what. I guess I don't understand your criteria for qualifying a movie to be on the list.

Honestly almost every one of those shouldn't be on the list. People read things into movies that are not intended. Whether it is a good message or not. Fight club for example was not intended to have a Christian theme. But you may see it, I honestly don't because I have read the book and have a knowledge of the author's other writings, and trust me he is not a Christian. It is a very good movie, I actually own it myself, but that still doesn't mean I think it is so profound that every Christian should see it. If it is a matter of just seeing good movies than I have a list of movies that are actually better.

The second part is that I like arguing for the sake of arguing as long as it doesn't go too far. Its fun that way. The things I have stated are of my own opinion. Thats all it is, and all it is meant to be. Thats why it is ok to disagree on movies, because when it comes down to it, it really doesn't matter in the slightest. Thats also why I never get mad about things like this.

Ok, fair enough if that was your point. But you added American History X as an essential, and it is no more in keeping with your criteria than any other film suggested. Yet you'd still put it on the list. I'm wondering about that discrepency and why the doublestandard. But I guess you answered my question below.

I don't agree with the CT list of following movies recommend specifically for Christians to see:

American Beauty, 1999, Sam Mendes - Dreck. I'm not sure how exploitation of statutory rape and adultery is very wholesome.

Bad Lieutenant, 1987, Abel Ferrara - Though this movie does seem to move in the thematic direction from degredation to redemption, the message is smothered amid the graphic sexuality, extremely coarse language, drug use and violence - A very 'makes you feel like you need to take a shower after it's done' movie. (though Harvey Keitel's performance is amazing.)

Dogma, 1999, Kevin Smith - This movie seems more like blasphemy to me. They might as well have stuck Michael with John Travolta on the list while they were at it.

The Last Temptation Of Christ, 1988, Martin Scorsese - I'm sorry. Any movie that implies Christ had imaginary dreams about having sexual relations with Mary Magdelene, or portrays Him as more like a doubting human instead of the Son of God in the flesh can't be good at all

Life of Brian, 1979, Terry Jones - Blasphemous to the core. Making fun of spiritual concepts directly related to Jesus Christ should not be promoted at the expense of 'being funny'.

The Sixth Sense, 1999, M. Night Shyamalan - You're kidding, right? Ghosts, communicating with the dead, spiritualism? All the things straight from Satan and condemned in the Bible??

Oi...Christianity Today is getting pretty loose don't you think?

I would recommend:

Remember the Titans (with Denzel Washington)
Radio (with Ed Harris and Cuba Gooding Jr.)

They're great mainstream releases with big name actors and no profanity. They are great feel good movies for the whole family
