Photographs Mt. Ranier, from Seattle

East of the Cascades, it is. The warm, moist air comes up the sides of the Cascades, and cools, dropping most of the moisture. Then it descends to the east, and warms up, meaning not much rainfall thereafter.

Remember, the volcano blew out sideways and took out most of the trees on that side. Even decades later, it's still not recovered completely.

Wow. Must be a bit towards that area along the Idaho border, called Hell's Canyon.

It's kinda southeast of Seattle. Really a different state, once you cross the mountains. BTW, Seattle would be a rain forest, if it weren't for the Olympic Mountains intercepting some of the moisture before it hits the city.

Barbarian: Great photos! so is this Wash. state? it seems rather arid.

Maybe. From that one view, I guess. But then you click on something like this: Washington State Rain Forest Images

Depends on where you are, that's the beauty. Do the same for deserts. We got it all. :thumbsup But we need to perpetuate the rumor about rain too because there are too many out-of-state'ers buying up the land. Dang! Where's my umbrella? I need to call the kennel, it's raining cats and dogs out there...

LOL. :)

Did you see that Sasquatch? Heard he came down from Canada. Well, wait. Let me change that; I heard he likes maple syrup anyway...

I have a few shots from the rain forest on the Olympic Penninsula, done a long time ago on 120 film using a Voigtlander Perkeo. The scans were pretty primitive. Next time I'm there, I'm going to do a much better job.

I love Snoqualamie Falls and LOOK at that water, right? The air is invigorating. Perfect prep for a great breakfast. Did you get a chance to have breakfast at the lodge? I was there a couple times, but they've changed ownership since then. Marvelous time there. There was (maybe still is) a train that went up from a corner of the Auburn area.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat if I had a couple pennies to throw together, lol. It's was (is) a marvel.
