So? In Islam, women are not equal with men, they can be beaten (Q. 4:34), their testimony is equal to that of 1/2 a man (Q. 2:282), which Muhammad used as evidence when he said that women are the "majority of the dwellers of hell" because they are "deficient in intelligence". Men can marry 4 women (Q. 4:3) provided they can afford them, women can give up some of her own (meagre) rights in a marriage to avoid being divorced (4:129), men can divorce by giving triple talaq (Q.65) but women must seek a Khul (in which they would need a good reason to divorce) but men don't need a reason and can divorce on a whim. Women inherit less than men do (Q. 4:11-12). I can go on for ages like this.

You seem to think that to Christians, Mary is thought of as you think of Muhammad (as above others in creation). This is not the case, and presenting this verse does not endear you to Christians of make Islam "compatible" with Christianity. The Quran still says that Christians are in error

So? Let's look at some other names for Quran Surah's: The Cow (longest surah), The bee The cave, the ants, the spider, Sad (arabic letter), Qaf (Arabic letter), Smoke, the Moon, the iron, the hypocrites & the unbelievers, etc..

There are 114 Surahs and one of them happens to be named Maryam (Muhammad got his names mixed up - IIRC, Marayam is the name of someone's sister and not Mary). So to imply that Islam venerates Mary because there is a Surah named after her, all I need do is point out Surah 109 (the unbelievers) to show that Surah names do not guarantee anything, as disbelievers are not tolerated in Islam ever since 9:5 (Ayah of the sword) was 'revealed' to Muhammad.

Let us hope not. According to the Quran itself, Allah admits he is the best makir ( ماكر - deceiver) - in 4 places that I am aware of. Why should we want to be guided by someone who admits they are the best liar?

Peace :)

Three thoughts:

1) To me, Mary is just another woman, albeit God's choice for Christ's birth mother.

2) I think someone is trying to change the subject by making the issue women in Islam rather than Mary in Islam. Women aren't the social equal of men in Christianity, either . (I mean biblical Christianity, not the effeminate pseudo-Christianity of contemporary America.)

3) Do you know if Talmudists love the Virgin Mary?

Sanitarium is atheist, so I doubt she cares about the Christian view of women.

what is pbuh?

Peace be upon him/her. It is an exhortation to Allah to grant peace apon the person. Non-Muslims should not use pbuh, as it is said out of reverence to Islam and it's prophets/special figures - ie.an endorsement of that religion.

Islam is a "good works" religion - if you don't die as a shahid (martyr) then you do not know if you are saved until judgement day - when your good deeds are weighed against your bad deeds. wishing "peace" apon the important figures of Islam (especially Muhammad) gives you and them "good points".

Ah! That's right I'm an Atheist - I am not interested in Christianity. I am sorry my post was confusing, but I am used to debating Muslims (I've been doing it for 3 years) and I know this argument well. If their statement about Mary goes unchallenged, their next step will be to talk about "equality of the sexes" in Islam, using Mary as the example and then pointing out common "Christianity's not as good" arguments.

So I was refuting what they said about Mary and also jumping ahead and refuting what they were going to say next.

My apologies, but I am accustomed to posting on forums where there is at least some knowledge of dawaganda arguments (dawa - spreading Islamic faith, ganda - propaganda), so usually I don't need to spell it out.

First 99 % of what you wrote is off topic!

Second it seems to me that you didnt like the Fact that we Love and respect Virgin Mary (pbuh) from one reason or another!

By the way this Verse and the statues of Virgin mary (pbuh) in the Holy Quran is answer to statues of women in Islam even whole Chapter is called by her name and mentiond her better then any religious book!

May Allah (swt) guide you!

Peace

No, my question is: what does it prove about Islam? Nothing except that Muhammad plageurized heavily from previous texts (bible) when creating Islam.

What are you bringing up statues for? There is not statues mentioned in the Quran.

I have addressed this. I'm not in the habit of repeating myself.

Best Wishes :)

You're not going to out-do Catholics on veneration of Mary.

What's the purpose of wishing peace upon Mary and others?

When we Say Name of ALLAH (swt) we write or say:

(SWT) SUBHANOH WE TA3ALA (dont know how in English) but can google it for you if you want!?

When we mention names of PROPHETS we say (pbuh) which means Peace be upon him.

We Respect and Honor all prophets so we cannot say their names just like that, even in normal life we say Mr. MRS. Boss etc.... as kind of respect so i guess when we talk about best of Humans we should show our respect to them, same like God or Jesus (pbuh), we never say Jesus just like that!

Peace

Amen to that. Scripture in itself shares that with us in the New Testament.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His ONLY begotten Son. That whosever believeth in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.
