My 1968 Camaro

Jeff, I want to preface this by saying I consider myself among the manliest of men. I'm all into football and action movies, and I'm all into my wife of (almost) 20 years. But I've never been a classic car enthusiast. I try hard to stay away from Royal Oak during August. :lol So, I didn't check in on your thread here until the latest avatars started popping up. :shocked!

THAT is incredible! Even for someone who's not into that stuff, I'm all about that car! The blue transing into purple then to red is amazing! WOW! Well played, brother! :clap

First, I'd like to offer you an invitation to come for a ride in it next Spring when I bring it down to the City. We'll do lunch too :thumbsup

Second, the picture doesn't even begin to capture the beauty of the paint. Even under the florescent lights with his corrugated metal cieling, lights and heater reflecting in the paint the paint dances on it's own. I mean, depending on how the light hits the paint (and I'm not talking about the flames) it changes from a light, bright blue, do a dark blue, to purple and then deep purple. Ohh, and the curves.. wow do they show off the spectrum of colors! I mean, look at the difference in the pictures (clear coat) from post 40 and post 37. The car hasn't changed and the light hasn't changed. What changed was the angel of the light from which the camera took the picture. You can see this because the picture I took I stayed low to the car until I didn't get the direct reflection from the lights. His shot was higher up and if you look, you can see very prounounced a mirror image of his ceiling lol! In the shot I took, you can really only see the two lights (white strip on the hood)

I literally stood for over an hour last night just looking at all the different colors from different angles etc. And goodness, you should see the flames up close! He did a brilliant job fading and transitioning the colors.

Can't wait to see it in natural sunlight, and I look forward to showing it off to you next spring! :thumbsup

I might have missed it if you said... Did you conceive of the color scheme and the pattern yourself? Did the guy painting it do it, or did you see it in a design somewhere? That is off the hook, stunning! :yes
 
The base color is Chevy Laser Blue (2006 - 2009) and was inspired by my 2006 Malibu Maxx (It's in the background of the youtube video I posted on page 1) that I had. Man, I loved that color and told myself that when the Camaro was painted, that's the color I was going to use.

If you read the thread, you'll find that I actually wanted big bold white SS stripes. Unfortunately the day before he was going to paint it we discovered that you can't paint SS stripes on an RS / SS hood. But I knew I wanted something that would really make the car pop and stand out and as I was looking at the car I saw flames.. not just flames, but ghost flames so the painter and I had several conversations of what I was looking for. What you see is much more than I envisioned!

We played with numerous different flame schemes including a tad of gold, and even a tad of green/gold, ohh, and even one with a bit of white around the edges. Actually, sitting next to me is a sample that goes from blue, purple red and then another sample that went from red, purple, blue. As you can see, we opted for the first choice with a bit lighter blue than the test sheet. seriously though, the painter bought over a dozen different colors until we made the decision. For me, it was a tough decision believe it or not.

I can't wait till we get to see it outside in real sunlight! and with no corrugated steel ceiling and lights reflecting on the paint LOL! Oh, and when I get the chrome on.. Wow!

So I'm not accused of swooping in and planting a post, I'll say for the record, I did read it. Five pages if probably my personal threshold before I don't bother. :lol I remembered reading about the stripes and them not lining up, but I didn't remember where you got the design for the flames. I loved seeing the updates! I feel like I've rented the DVD's for a TV series and cruised right through, and now I have to wait like the rest of the schmucks for each weekly show! I should have waited for the series to finish before I started renting! :lol Don't think I'm not showing up at your door for that ride... and that lunch when it's done.
 
Jeff years ago I have had 2 drive shafts drop on me, but it was always a bad universal.
 
Here are the latest. All rubbed out and ready to be put back together :)

I should have it street ready by spring. I have to put all the lights back in, the grill, all the weatherstripping, window felt, carpet etc. Lot's to do before it's ready. Oh, I have to install a vacuum canister for my brakes, re-route the fuel filter, change oil and tune in the carb and dial in the suspension. Did I say I also have a short in the wiring somewhere I have to resolve :D

Ahh, but it's around the corner. I can taste it!

I've got the rest of the week off, so I'll be heading over to his house in the morning to start putting it back together and the inside cleaned up a bit.

I am uber excited! Ha, while I was driving my beat up old malibu to work this morning, I was just day dreaming that it was my camaro and for some reason, this song was stuck in my head :lol

Jeff, don't take this the wrong way. I mean, you do have GQ potential and all. But whether it's for the car or not, I can't imagine you gettin' jiggy with this song! And certainly not cruising along with it booming from your rig! :lol

Ohh, but maybe I'll crank out AC/DC's Back in Black, or "For those about to Rock, we salute you" as it's debut song? :D

So anyway, I'm getting ready to head on out for a couple hours. Here's what I've gotten done the past two day.

1. Removed the interior and carpet.
2. Installed all new weather striping.
3. Took out all the windows and registers.
4. Installed window felt.
5. Installed door handles.
5. Installed chrome "velocity stacks" on hood.
6. I don't know, but I did it :biglol

Here are two pictures from yesterday. See ya all next year!

Well... I still have to put the seats in, and the gas pedal, and the shifter.... oh yeah, and the wire harness for the lights.. ehh, all little stuff. :lol
 
Well, here is what I got accomplished yesterday :)

New carpet is in, seat belts are back in, rear seat is back in, passenger seat is in and I got the new glove box lock installed.

Wiring harness routed in engine compartment and trunk.

I've still got to install the shifter and gas pedal which takes two people before I put the drivers seat in.

I still need to adjust all the windows (fun fun) and when the side mirrors come in, I can install them and then put on the inside door panels.

We're getting there!
