My bible came today (new testament)

(I have full version on tablet and of course this website)

It also came with a free book on living a good Christian life and for someone new to faith I was very happy for this surprise.

It came at a good time too. I was having unstable urges to do self destructive behaviours because I was feeling VERY guilty for dissociating (feeling spaced out, having gaps in memory, not responding to external stimuli properly) and I get these compulsive urges to do what is best described as self mutilation. I am very ashamed of this and worried about it (got a mental health session in a few days definitely raising the issue with them)

My partner gave me my bible and opened it up for me. I read both pages and the foot notes. It was talking about walking in spirit and not the flesh, being clear and of clear mind in your conviction to the Lord to be heard and also having courage. I felt this resonated. Obviously the Holy Spirit doesn't urge me to do these things to myself so I shouldn't listen to them and instead remember God's word, the 10 commandments and trust in him completely.

Thinking about this made me feel stronger, calmer and less compulsive more or less immediately.

Just thought I'd share :)

Reading the word does many things. In a sense, it causes us to partake of the Spirit of God when we receive, because as the Lord said, "My words are Spirit, and they are Life."

But it also causes us to immediately stop thinking of ourselves, our own failures, our own weaknesses, etc. and about Him, and His strengths, His abilities, His power towards and in us, especially the New Testament.

Never forget to pray that He reveal something to you before you open it, and if you have any more specific questions feel free to post them. Answering Bible questions is a fun way to pass the time.

That's great, Prim. I got a free bible online that is a study bible. It helps to explain what I'm reading and adds context, which is really great because it can be confusing. The only thing I don't like about it is the paper is way too thin.

You can see the words on the other side of the page while trying to read and it's too distracting. I've since switched to my original NIV bible that has good quality paper.

Is it the recovery version? That sounds the same as mine lol mine was free online. The paper is very thin yes because you can see the words on the other side but it's still readable on each page and the foot notes (explanation notes) are very helpful, I'm autistic and struggle to understand the meaning of everyday conversation sometimes let alone an ancient book :D
It also smells inky but I kinda like that LOL
I also think it is a good size
When I'm richer I'll buy a full big HEAVY bible but until then I see no need lol

Yes, it is. Black with gold lettering. I love the smell of books, too. 😊

It's food for our souls as God's word nourishes us, strengthens us and encourages us to lead a life that is pleasing to the Lord. We might not always understand certain things we read, but together we can find the true meaning. Just remember, there are no stupid questions, but you will get stupid answers, lol. That's why we first pray and ask the Holy Spirit to reveal truth to us.
