My Engine Is Blown, Ruined

Well yesterday I blew my interference engine very good looking, everybody wanted it, 1993 Isuzu Rodeo. I think that interference engines should have never been made, because when the timing belt goes, the pistons and valves crash into each other, and the valves get bent up where they meet, and you can score the pistons, which will put metal shavings into the system. I love my SUV so I really want to put another 3.2 engine in it. I have to use AAA today to go get it where it failed when I was leaving a funeral yesterday. If I had the right stuff, like I did in the past I would drop that engine in myself, so now I have to shop around for a engine used of course, and find out how much it is to have one dropped in. I am very upset about losing my only transportation, but God will bring me through this. I put that timing belt in myself the thing was running great with a lot of power, but then the timing belt tensioner failed and the belt had to much slack because the tensioner was moving away from the belt, causing the the belt to slap against the upper passenger side timing belt cover causing it to break. As soon as the engine cut off I knew what it was, I should not have driven the thing with a bad tensioner, so now I have to pay the price. These people who make the interference engines should be sued, because your engine is ruined because of a belt breaking. On a regular engine nothing happens when the timing chain breaks, except the timing has to be reset. No engine should be ruined because a timing belt breaks. Regular engines have clearance between the valves and pistons, so they don't crash into each other. This is not a good couple of days for me. :bigcry :mad :verysad :o :crying :eeeekkk :cry4 :shocked! :sorry :nono :praying

My engine might be ok, I have broken some of it down, I think it is ok. :yes

One of the gasket heads in my parents car just warped the other night, so they have to replace it. That stuff is so expensive :shame

How's the engine going Lewis? Are you making progress?
I have to drill out or have a timing tension pulley bolt left hand drilled out the front of the block, then I can put it back together,

Yeah that can be expensive, sometimes depending on what you got, it is cheaper to get another motor. Because if mine gives me anymore trouble that is just what I am going to do.

That's one reason I chose this profession; you can save a ton of money working on your own vehicle. :)

Well Lewis, you ought to have her all buttoned up and running by now huh?

Derek,
It's funny cause being very poor growing up, if you didn't know how to fix your car, it wasn't going to get fixed. What's funny though is that growing up, all my friends knew how to work on cars (We were all dirt poor :lol ) and when one of them had a problem, we all shared our accumulated knowledge (and tools lol!) to get the car fixed.

As I moved into corporate America, I was shocked to learn that all men couldn't change a head gasket, or at least change their own brakes :oops I just assumed for years that everyone at least changed their own brakes unless they were just lazy LOL!

Yeah like right now I don't have a whole lot of money, so I have to do it my self, I think I am going to have to get the left handed drill bits, off the internet. Home Depot did not have them, Sears did not have them Lowes did not have them. Left hand bits most of the time, will grab the bolt and turn it out of there, starting from a small bit working your way up. And yeah coming up I had to do my own auto work, learned from my dad brakes, starters and so fourth, but you be surprised at the people who know nothing about under the hood.

I have been just letting it sit, but today I reset the timing again, and as I suspected the valves are bent. I love that SUV, and I am not ready to let it go, so I am going to get another engine instead of replacing the heads or valves. So because of money reasons, it won't be running until sometime in late August. But then again 2 heads could be expensive even used ones, and replacing the valves, is another option, my head is not thinking right at this moment, but I must weigh my options, to get this job done with the least money. And the pistons could be scored, too. But I know those valves are bent. Who ever invented the interference engine, is a idiot. I'll tell you this after this one, I will never buy another interference engine. And then I hear that auto dealers won't even tell customers that they are buying interference engines. Because some of them know what might happen. Car companies did not have the consumer in mind, when they invented and promoted these motors. It is a shame that a broken or jumped timing belt can ruin a engine, and cost you all that money and heart ache.

Get a brand new engine and it should come with a warranty, so that should give you some peace of mind. You would have to check with the seller, but the warranty on the engine itself (unless you buy a kit--i'm talking about a long block) should be honored even if you install it yourself instead of taking it to a shop and have it 'professionally' installed. The only catch is, if something happens to it, you'll be out the labor to get it warrantied. Now, if you have a dealer install it, the labor would be warrantied also in most cases; but you should check with your parts distributor and dealer to verify that.

Thanks I got it out a while ago now, but the valves are bent, so I am getting another engine.

I love a guy that can fix a car on his own. Because I sure can't! :lol
