HOW THE APOSTLES DIED.

1. Matthew. Suffered martyrdom in Ethiopia, Killed by a sword wound.
2. Mark. Died in Alexandria, Egypt , after being dragged by Horses through the streets until he was dead.
3. Luke. Was hanged in Greece as a result of his tremendous Preaching to the lost.
4. John. Faced martyrdom when he was boiled in huge Basin of boiling oil during a wave of persecution In Rome. However, he was miraculously delivered From death.

John was then sentenced to the mines on the prison Island of Patmos. He wrote his prophetic Book of Revelation on Patmos . The apostle John was later freed and returned to serve As Bishop of Edessa in modern Turkey . He died as an old man, the only apostle to die peacefully

1. Peter. He was crucified upside down on an x shaped cross. According to church tradition it was because he told his tormentors that he felt unworthy to die In the same way that Jesus Christ had died.
2. James. The leader of the church in Jerusalem , was thrown over a hundred feet down from the southeast pinnacle of the Temple when he refused to deny his faith in Christ. When they discovered that he survived the fall, his enemies beat James to death with a fuller's club.

This was the same pinnacle where Satan had taken Jesus during the Temptation.
7. James the Son of Zebedee was a fisherman by trade when Jesus Called him to a lifetime of ministry.
As a strong leader of the church, James was beheaded at Jerusalem. The Roman officer who guarded James watched amazed as James defended his faith at his trial.
Later, the officer Walked beside James to the place of execution. Overcome by conviction, he declared his new faith to the judge and Knelt beside James to accept beheading as a Christian.

1. Bartholomew. Also known as Nathaniel. He Was a missionary to Asia. He witnessed for our Lord in present day Turkey. Bartholomew was martyred for his preaching in Armenia where he was flayed to death by a whip.
2. Andrew. He Was crucified on an x-shaped cross in Patras, Greece. After being whipped severely by seven soldiers they tied his body to the cross with cords to prolong his agony.

His followers reported that, when he was led toward the cross, Andrew saluted it in these words, "I have long desired and expected this happy hour. The cross has been consecrated by the body of Christ hanging on it". He continued to preach to his tormentors For two days until he expired.

1. Thomas. He Was stabbed with a spear in India during one of his missionary trips to establish the church in the Subcontinent.
2. Jude. He Was killed with arrows when he refused to deny his faith in Christ.
3. Matthias. The apostle chosen to replace the traitor Judas Iscariot. He was stoned and then beheaded.
4. Paul. He Was tortured and then beheaded by the evil Emperor Nero at Rome in A.D. 67. Paul endured a lengthy imprisonment, which allowed him to write his many epistles to the churches he had formed throughout the Roman Empire. These letters, which taught many of the foundational Doctrines of Christianity, form a large portion of the New Testament.

Perhaps this is a reminder to us that our sufferings here are indeed minor to compare to the intense persecution and cold cruelty faced by the apostles and disciples during their times For the sake of the Faith.
And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: But he that endureth to the end shall be Saved.

Couple of inaccuracies.
St. Andrews cross is the "X".

Paul was killed by a riot. We aren't sure if there was a plot to kill Paul and that's the reason for the riot or not. Paul's head is still attached to his skeleton. A bit of purple cloth was found in the casket with him.

I thought Luke died of old age (being the doctor he was a bit smarter than the rest)

But at least thats what I remember from reading Fox's Book of Martyrs.

Hmmmm.... I studied a lot of things but not How every Apostle or disciple died, some I do know... some I have no clue

Paul, the apostle, who before was called Saul, after his great travail and unspeakable labors in promoting the Gospel of Christ, suffered also in this first persecution under Nero. Abdias, declareth that under his execution Nero sent two of his esquires, Ferega and Parthemius, to bring him word of his death. They, coming to Paul instructing the people, desired him to pray for them, that they might believe; who told them that shortly after they should believe and be baptised at His sepulcher. This done, the soldiers came and led him out of the city to the place of execution, where he, after his prayers made, gave his neck to the sword.

I did study the Gospel of Thomas from the apocrypha and he was slain in India, They still celebrate the day he landed there to spread the good news.

The Gospel of Thomas is one of those books that I have never trusted.
It doesn't read like scripture and has a reputation of being created for the nobles after the Constantine empire was created.

Agreed, read with a grain of salt for sure!!!!!!! yet India confirms his landing there and dying a horrible death for the gospels sake. Once a year (to this day) they celebrate the day the gospel was preached there by Thomas.

Actually Mark and Luke were not from the original 12 disciples nor was Paul. Mark was actually taught by Peter at Mark's mother's house where Peter came to many times to preach. Peter made him a disciple. Luke was a doctor and a traveling companion of Paul and was taught by those who were eyewitnesses of Christ. Paul was converted on the road to Damascus and taught the law by Gamaliel.

There is only two that are actually listed as how they died as James the son of Zebedee died by the sword, Acts 12:2 and Judas by hanging himself Matthew 27:5.

Only tradition tells of how all the others died, but you can also look them up in the Martyrs Mirror or FOX'S Book of Martyrs

Peter died in Rome during the persecution of Emperor Nero. Peter was crucified upside down on a cross upon his own request.

James the son of Zebedee was put to death by the order of King Herod by a sword, possibly beheaded. Acts 12:2

James the son of Alphaeus preached in Jerusalem and was stoned to death.

Andrew preached in Asia Minor (Turkey) and in Greece was crucified.

Thomas preached around the area of east Syria and was pierced through with spears of four solders.

Philip preached in North Africa then in Asia Minor. He was arrested for converting the wife of a Roman proconsul and cruelly put to death.

Matthew preached in Persia and Ethiopia and said to have been stabbed to death.

Bartholomew missionary travels took him to Armenia, India, Ethiopia and Southern Arabia and was said he was flayed alive an beheaded.

Simon the Zealot preached in Persia and was killed after refusing to sacrifice to the sun god.

Matthais replaced Judas and preached in Syria and was burned to death.

John after being released from the Isle of Patmos died of old age
