Naming a Child

Before anyone gets too excited, no, Caroline and I are not expecting. This is actually more from reading over my family tree in the last few days. What do you consider or do you think you will consider when the time comes?

Well I have 2 already, Kaylee Madison and Benjamin Lucas. I have another on the way. Not sure of sex yet but if it's a boy I like Jonah, Judah (with Man for the middle name , j/k ) and Noah. Possibly Isaiah, love the meaning just not the 3 syllables. (It's hard to yell out 3 syllables into 1 when your child is mommy, mommy, mommying you while you are trying to cook dinner, set the table and do the dishes) But I'm hoping and praying for another girl so if it's a girl I like Olivia, Anne Kate and Brooklyn. My all time fav show is Law & Order: SVU and I love watching Olivia and Elliott capture the bad guys and solve the cases. I've always wanted to be a detective. I will definitely keep my eye on this thread for more ideas though.

Ahh, Tim I was getting excited, but then I thought "already? that's quick".

Don't go for anything obscure, it makes the child feel to out-of-place. A family friend almost named one of their children Xavier. Ouch!

Then again, do something more imaginatve than John Smith.

Me? I once considred naming my child Nick Jr, but then that would make me Nick Snr - not the best of looks for me! .

So after all that I have absolutely no idea. I think I'll just pick a name out of a hat!

Joshua is a strong name for a boy, Ruth for the girl.. :yes

For years I have been suggesting that people name their girl child "Xenia" (pronounced "Zen-yÉ™ "). It is a Greek word meaning "hospitality". So far, no one has done so.

Oh, it's just that I'm seeing a lot of christian twenty-somethings naming their kids the common bible names -- Malachi, Isaiah, Noah, Micah, etc. As a matter of personal taste, I prefer something more unique.

I think Asher and Jada are pretty cool names.

Well I like Noah because to me it symbolizes a new beginning. And if you knew my story you would understand that I am on the path where I'd like to start over. Me and husband went through lots of trials and errors in our marriage, I was done with dealing with it, I left him, 8 months later while trying to get a divorce I found another man, got pregnant, God kept telling me to go back to my husband and I kept fighting God until I finally surrendered. My husband is willing to rekindle the flames and start over, accepting this child as "our" child so to me it's like a new beginning for us.

I like Judah because I have a son named Benjamin who was Jacob's favorite son and Judah was one of his brothers. He was the strongest, the one that suggested they sell Joseph instead of killing him in order to spare his life, and he offered himself to his father as surety that his brother would be safe when Joseph asked for him to come to Egypt. I really love the whole story of Jacob and his sons. It's very interesting to me.

I like Jonah because my children's favorite song is Who did swallow Jonah. I also have a children's book about Jonah and the whale and have read it to them over 200 times since they were babies. They are so fascinated by the whole story and how God saved Jonah from the whales belly. Anytime we go to the beach they always ask if a whale is gonna come up and swallow them. When I tell them no they say "Well it's okay if they do momma cause God'll save me."

I just realized Asher was a son of Jacob too. Levi and Simeon seemed rather violent killing a bunch of men for no reason. Reuben - eh? Not liking him too much. Am looking up the other brothers.

We decided to name our first daughter Norah Rae after my husband's great-grandmother (Eleanor) and my grandfather (Ray). Our first son will be Simon James. Should we have two daughters, I like Lydia Michal.
