Napoleon Dynamite

Saw it this weekend. I thought it was wierd. Couldn't figure out the moral or the point or the plot, or the reason for making the film. My wife and I talked about it and we agreed that it made us feel like the mean kids at school - since the basis of the whole movie was basically making fun of socially awkward people. We couldn't help but feel sorry for Napoleon and felt bad about laughing at him.

That said - the dance scene was awesome - but not worth the price of admission or full price rental. If you can borrow it from somebody or rent it for 99 cents, do it. Its very clean - no cursing or sex.

I got a "Vote for Pedro" T-shirt the other day....my new prize possession.

Best quote....

"Back in '82, I could throw a pigskin a quarter-mile"-Uncle Rico.

But perhaps more amazingly...I fully agree with...

There was no moral to be learned except that people are weird and you should be able to laugh at yourself. The other moral may be that noone should take themselves very seriously in high school because no matter what you are a dork.
The plot was the same as every other indy movie ever made: dorky guy meets dorky girl and they fall in love, thats it.
The movie was making fun of akward dorky people. But the akward dorky people were th ones making the movie to make fun of themselves. I am akward and dorky thats why I loved the movie.

BTW the majority of the actors and the director are mormon, thats why it is so clean (and why the people are so dorky :-D joking) they all went to Brigham young together for film study. Wish they weren't mormon, but they made a great movie.

I guess you had to be a weird kid who did stupid things for fun to enjoy this movie. There is a little Napoleon in us all. :D

Valentine's present from my loving lady....isn't she cool?

I know she bought it online....I did a quick google search and found a bunch of sites....so just take a quick look around...you should be able to get one for under $15.

"I'm gonna do what ever I feel like doing...GOSH!"

LOL....that could almost be an atheist quote....haha!

I thought Napoleon Dynamite was a great movie - very funny. Although the sense of humor is clearly one that not everyone will appreciate.

One of the best, and most surprising, things about it was the fact that it was "clean." i.e. No foul language, no sex, violence, etc. Even the parts that you think might get a little ungodly, turned out to be okay.

Very rare to find a movie like this these days, so - Mormons or not - good on them!

Have you seen pictures of what the cast look like in real life? It's so weird, becasue you'd probably never rcognize most of them.

A flippin 12 gauge, what do you think!

This movie is definitly on my top 5 list now. It is one that you have to watch a few times to understnad all of the humor. One of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time.

"you're mom goes to college"

Just saw this last Friday night. Hilarious. "I love technology..." I'm still chuckling over that one.

I watched this movie for the first time in Drama class, because it was clean. The teacher was saying that you don't have to be dirty to be funny, and I agree with him. Napoleon Dynamite was an awesome movie.

"I already get my hair cut at the Cuttin' Corral."

"Tina, you fat lard. Come get some dinner!"

the scene where he throws the steak...that wet sound it makes as it hits Napolean in the head is just sick. GOSH.

NAPOLEON'S DYNAMITE!

i admit that when i first rented it and it s l o w l y started to unfold I thought, man, this might be a waste of money. but the way jon heder delivered his lines was so stupid it was funny.

What I liked about Napoleon Dynamite--besides his name, was that he wasn't trying to be like anyone else but himself. His sense of style, dance, speech, art & everything else, was all his own with no apology.

Even when he was telling lies he was honest--honestly ridiculous, therefore honestly himself. His lies were even laugh worthy--though i don't advocate lying.

He did come across overly out there to the point that one would ask, Is this guy on something? But knowing that he'd be the type to say, "I would never defile my body with such substances. I can't even believe you asked that. Gosh!", makes me love him more.

In real life, I wouldn't mind having him as a friend, or an acquaintance, provided we only chat every now and then and only for a limited amount of time. Cause in all honesty, someone like that I'd need to take in small doses.

He danced for that assembly the way we should all dance--like no one was watching. That alone touched my heart. It was more important to help his friend Pedro than to not possibly look like an idiot in front of the school. He deserved that standing ovation. How do like them tater-tots, you phony popular people?!

P.S. i loved the White Stipes opening song. It perfectly accompanied the great visuals of cafeteria meals and note book doodlings, etc. And it was cool to see that other people know about syrup and peanut butter sandwiches.

P.S.SSST And i love the 80's song The Promise (by When In Rome) played at the end credits. Great song. And call me whatever, but I love Napoleon's brother's wedding song to his bride. I think it was beautiful

“Heck Yes†I absolutely love Napoleon Dynamite! In fact I love it so much I even have a T-shirt, it has the 1% milk quote. The first time I watched it I like it ok, it helped that I saw it with some college buddies who had already seen it and had been quoting it before. The fact is the more I watch the more I like it…in other words it grows on me.

I rented this movie when it was first available OnDemand because everyone was raving about it. The first time I watched the movie I thought "what a waste of 3 bucks." But the more you think about the different parts the funnier it gets.

That is why you should watch it 2 or 3 times before making a decision about the quality.

It is one of the best movies in quite a long time. It is so real. Even the little things like when Napoleon would "hide" while using the phone. I used to do that when I first started talking to friends on the phone. I have to admit though, I was much younger than Napoleon when I did it.

I love it too when he was using his martial arts skills on the tether ball.

The best thing about Napoleon, and it was mentioned earlier, is that he is himself. No matter who is around or what is going on Napoleon is Napoleon and he doesnt care what people think.

Oooh, one of my all-time favorite movies EVER. It's true that not all will understand the humor, but it was hilarious because Napoleon was just being himself, like Stardust said. Look, you notice Napoleon is a complete misfit, and yet he acts like he's the normal one and everyone else is insane--with absolute conviction, no questions asked. I LOVE that about him! I guess that's what makes this movie so "flippin'" hilarious...just his attitude. I never felt sorry for him because he just seems so in-his-own-world that you know no one can really bothering him. He thinks he's all that, what more could you want?

Go Napoleon!
