[__ Prayer __] Need a prayer? Really?

I know a lot of people post that they need people to pray for them, but is that practical in the real church we go to? I asked some people to pray for me, but now they're the ones spreading gossip. Should you still ask people to pray for you after you've been stabbed in the back like that?

Sounds like you have maturity issues to deal with. I have only specific people I will ask to stand on the word with me about something, I just don't ask anyone to pray because I take prayer seriously and fully expect what I prayed for to come to pass.

Mike.

Should one be able to trust people in one's own local church to stand in prayer of a need without it becoming fodder for gossip?

Of course.

But, unfortunately, there are untrustworthy people where ever one goes, including fellow church members. Since any give church is made up of very flawed people, it's best to develop relationships and see who is trustworthy.

One advantage to a forum like this is, even if someone were to gossip, the impact of the needing believer would be minimal...(however, the judgment on the gossiper would be the same!)

But I hear where you're coming from Whiteshield... way too often the "prayer chain" becomes the "grapevine"... it's sinful and it shouldn't happen, but it does.

I typically do not go into any detail when requesting prayers for myself or others. Our Lord already knows each individual situation, and knows who the person is.

It grieves my heart to know you have been on the hurting end of church member's gossip, Whiteshield. We do hold our fellow Christians to higher standards because of our personal relationships with our Lord. So it becomes even more hurtful when the harmful gossiping is done by Christians - specifically, Christian members of one's own church home.

Please don't give up on us, though, my friend. CFnet is a fine Christian site where many have asked & received answers to their prayer requests!
