Since Charisma closed their forum I've been looking for a place to be. I love discussion boards. I'm a 35 year old married minister with children. I am spirit filled from an apostolic background. I love the Lord and His people, it's good to be here with ya'll.

Welcome! I can see it will be fun having you here! :D

I am nondenominational now. I have been both independent pentecostal and UPC.

I believe there is one God whose name is Jesus. I believe in the Acts 2:38 experience. I do not believe that we are the only ones saved. I believe in saved by grace. I do not believe in some of the standards set forth in the UPC. So yes and no.

I have attended a few larger UPC that are wonderful diversified churches. They have been the best churches I've ever known. I have many friends in the UPC. I just don't hold to the notion we are the only ones going to heaven.

Hi Apostolic,

I don't think we are the only ones going to heaven either. Thats an odd view to me, and a highminded attitiude. If you beleive that Jesus is God and that the plan of salvation that Peter preached on the day of Pentecost IS the plan of salvation, And Jesus name baptism is the correct water baptism, then thats the truth.
As far as standards go, I really don't see the big deal of why so many get so bent out of shape over it. It seems to me that those who do are bent out of spirit. I don't agree with the measuring of hemlines, the absoluteness of small things like clear fingernail polish, the way hair styles are done, I don't think splits are decent. There are ministers that say their unmarried female saints cannot leave the church. If they want to get married then the man has to move to her church. Now, I do not agree with that. But that is , what, 2 percent, 5 percent. Very small. The percentage of the legalism that I continually hear about is so minimal that it's ridiculous to even have any disputes about it. I'm very tired of hearing all the junk to tell the truth. There's legalism like that in a Protestant church as well.
I hear of the "new doctrines "folks are believing, like the rapture will not take place, all we have to do as Saints is make sure we are saved when we die, or that the rapture has already taken place. I'm flabbergasted about the lies I hear. Whats wrong with Gods people that they cannot hear the word of the Lord anymore? It 's the last days and folks are being blinded by these false winds of doctrines floating around the UPC and the Independant churches as well.
Do they not bother you? You don't beleive the false doctrines do you? Please tell me you do not.
The T.V.s and the video. Might as well be The Assembly of the Gods. :crying:

God bless

 It's been awhile since I've heard "The Assemblies of the Gods." To be honest with you, Rose (if I may call you Rose), I have long since departed from many of the standards presented by most oneness churches. Some of the people I love most are or were UPC. I don't have a problem with people who want to uphold such standards, I just don't feel the need to. My salvation is secure whether I own a tv or not. Also, I wear a goatee, my wife wears makeup and earbobs. Shhh! Don't ask, don't tell.

As to doctrine, I believe in Acts 2:38 as the experience. I differ though in that I don't diminish another's baptism. For instance the Bible says to do all in the name of Jesus. Does that mean we say the words, "in the name of Jesus" everytime we do anything? No, we are baptized in the name of Jesus whether those words are spoken or not.

I also believe that there is only one God but I think the godhead is a very hard to understand subject. So I do not discriminate against my trinitarian brothers. I don't think the understanding of the godhead has a bearing on our salvation.

Blessings to you Rose on your quest for God.

And I hate to say it but I do not believe in "the rapture." Atleast not in the way it's taught in most or our churches. The rapture like trinity is an extra biblical word. To say Jesus is coming twice, once for us to take us to dinner for seven years and once again for the last time does not line up with scripture. I believe Jesus is coming. Period.

There might be another few differences we have but I would love to talk about them.

Oh but it does and I can show you. But would you believe me? Why does it not line up in your view?

What are your differences? Why did you leave the UPC if you don't mind me asking.

God bless

Hi Mcrees.

Hi Rose. I don't know what our differences may be, I just know what differences I have with the UPC's I am familiar with. The first is with sectarianism. I believe the UPC and apostolic churches to be only a part of the body of Christ. My belief is that every one that believes Jesus to be the son of God is part of the body.

The second would be with the air of pride surrounding some apostolic churches. The notion that we have supreme truth doesn't set well with me. I believe apostolic churches have a revelation of the God that was given by God. So, there's no need to be lifted up about it.

The third would be some of the standards set forth. I think it's hard enough to just do what the Bible says (love). To add extras like women not wearing pants or makeup or cutting their hair is too much. For instance, no facial hair on men. Where would that be addressed in scripture? and yet I know of many an apostolic church that will condemn for it. Understand, I'm not putting all in the same box. I have been a part of a UPC that is very progressive. It's considered worldly by other UPC's. I am speaking of the majority of the ones I've been to.

I am a minister and ministry took me out of the UPC. It's good talking to you Rose. There aren't many who know what we're talking about in these kind of forums but I enjoy all of God's people. It's an enriching experience hearing others opinions and hearts. God's blessings to you.

United Pentecostal Church. It's a oneness pentecostal organization emphasizing the Acts 2:38 experience.
