Noah walked with God

Noah was a righteous man, blameless in his generation; Noah walked with God. Gen 6:9 RSV

What does it mean to “walk with God Are we supposed to have a personal relationship with him? Are all of us supposed to walk with God?

a [walked] Hebrew: halak (HSN-<H1980>), to walk up and down, be conversant (cp. Ex. 2:5; 14:29; Lev. 26:40; Josh. 5:6; 1Sam. 8:3; 12:2). Enoch and Noah were the only antediluvians who walked with God (Gen. 5:22; 6:9). Abel, Enoch and Noah are the only ones referred to as godly during this age (Gen. 4:4; 5:22; 7:1; Lk. 17:26-27; Heb. 11:1-7; 1Pet. 3:20; 2Pet. 2:4-5; Jude 1:14). This walk with God might have been as literal as with Adam (Gen. 2:19; 3:8).—Dake's Study Notes

For us, and perhaps Noah as well, it simply means that you are following His ways... you are walking on the narrow path of righteousness that leads to eternal life... it leads to God. "Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city (Rev.22:14)." If you are walking after the flesh and not after the Spirit then you are not walking w God and are walking instead w Satan, after his authority and toward eternal damnation (Gal.6:7-8; 1 Jn.1:5-6; 2:3-6; 3:1-10). "He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked (1Jn.2:6)."

I think “walking with God†means having a personal relationship with him. We are told to love the Lord with all of our hearts, souls, and minds (Matt 22:34-40). We are told to pray constantly (1 Thess 5:17). I think these are the keys.

Right. Thats what I'm saying and all those verses are saying, also. Walking w God takes obedience to His ways... obedience to righteousness. If we are loving the Lord w all of our hearts, souls, and minds, then we are walking in obedience. Having a relationship w God does mean walking as Christ did... in complete obedience. if we say we have a relationship w Him and walk in sin, then we are liars (1 Jn.1:5 - 2:6). Pray w/o ceasing about all things so that your feet continue on the path of righteousness by remaining obedient... continueing, remaining, abiding, enduring in Christ. There are 22 commands and admonitions for Christians in 1 Thes.5 in view of His Coming.

His burden is light....we fulfil the royal law by loving our neighbor.

James 2:7-10 said:
Do not they blaspheme that worthy name by the which ye are called? If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well: But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors. For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

Matthew 11:29-30 said:
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Saved by grace and the purifying of our hearts by faith....
Acts 15:10 said:
Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Don’t forget the great and first commandment (Matthew 22:34-40).

Don’t forget the great and first commandment (Matthew 22:34-40).

Why would you think I'd forget it?

Loving God is even easier than loving our neighbor.

My impression is that a lot of people don’t take the great and first commandment very seriously. They can’t see the Lord with their eyes, so they don’t think much about him. They tell themselves that when the day comes that they see him standing there, then they will love him. They don’t seem to understand that he is with each one of us now. What do you think?

When God says Noah walked with him he mean't he obeyed, listened, and meditated day and night, and followed God, thus God saved him from the flood.

I think if they knew Him they would love Him.
If they don't love Him, they don't know Him.

Sadly, many people know of God, but it's nothing more than head knowledge.
It's the same with believing, faith, and repentance....it's the heart not the head that matters.
