Noah Wasn't a Righteous Man

OK, I need to chew on this :)

You do realize that in this discussion we need to place Jesus and the work of the cross in correct relation to this issue of righteousness. What then changes after the sacrifice of Jesus if we have to look, say at Noah who were righteous and obviously saved by God.

OK, for one, I would say, the way to holiness opened. The "high calling in Christ" came about. We can now walk a sinless walk , if God gives us the faith for this walk, which then will bring the grace to walk it. (no faith = no grace )

There is a law that says...God gives grace to the humble. Hence the importance of basic righteousness and it's inherent humility.

It all depends on when we receive the grace of God. For we who run the race...we have received an advance on our eternal inheritance...NOW! A foretaste of the power to come. We can run like hares in the race.

For those who through patience continue to do what is right without Christ...their grace awaits them at the end (as in the sheep and goats judgment) They are the plodding turtles in the race...slow and steady.

All grace and forgiveness is accomplished at the cross of Christ. Those who follow after Christ are permitted a walk of victory by His faith in us.

His faith comes to us by a full surrender to God in the whole deposit of faith that we presently possess. We all have a measure of faith. We need to invest this fully in God.

WE give our all....and then He kicks in with the rest. (no pun intended ;) )

The surprise is the greatness of the provision of God whereby we become partakers of His holiness by faith. (from faith to FAITH) What a great salvation!

Amen .
I used "shorthand " in saying "no faith =no grace" . :)

Humility is submitting to the truth of the Word, which means I take what God says as the truth and not my own opinion. I then place my faith, which He has given me a portion of, in His Word. That releases His grace to allow me to walk in that which I have placed my faith into.

So God gives grace to the humble !

If I am proud, I do not submit to the Word and I follow my opinion and/or the opinions of men. I have nowhere to place my faith , and the result is that God will resist me.

God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble .

Noah was a unique man in his generation. He was blameless and righteous before God. The Ark took 120 years to build. That is a modern lifetime. 120 years of obedience and perseverance. This is the bible's way of saying that we will be saved from condemnation with the world through a lifetime of obedience and service to God. The standard of salvation for men is that we act with righteousness; that we BE righteous.

The OP's original point is much fail. Obviously, righteousness was ascribed to Noah...although he didn't always live it out (for example, his drunkenness after the flood). To insist, however, that Noah wasn't "righteous" is to impugn the character of Noah and to call God a liar. :halo

Exactly!

Does this count in Noah's defense?

Gen 7:1 And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.

It's the first time the Bible uses the word "righteous".

And certainly not the last!!! ;) :-)

Okay so maybe Mr. Mark was wrong, glad we have such a good bunch of folks here to shed some light on the subject. :yes

Yes I believe that Noah found favor with God, First because he was righteous, not sinless. Second because his blood line was pure. Seemed to be something not found at that time. Could make a whole new thread on that subject, "maybe I will" if someone doesn't beat me to it... But yes I think Noah was righteous man. :yes
