Regardless of what one “thinks in his heart” (Prov 23:7), freedom from sin’s guilt has been accomplished in life of the believer, but freedom from sin’s oppression (Rom 6:12, 14) is the result of the believer’s “reckoning” concerning this truth, otherwise there can be bondage consciously, even though the believer is freed practically.
The Christian is eternally free from the “condemnation” of sin, even though at times he may not be convinced of such, but nevertheless “the word truth” stands. Unless there is the accepting (reckoning) of this in the understanding, there will be no conscientious application of this truth, resulting in the delay of the progression “from glory to glory” (2 Cor 3:18). I say delay, because it will only be a matter of time until the work of God (Phl 2:13) achieves its intention. Hence the phrases “to be conformed” (Rom 8:29) and “are changed” both denote subjectivity from God, and not objectivity from self, thus an inevitability.
It has well been said that “the Blood procures pardon from sin’s guilt, and the Cross procures power over sin’s rule” (Rom 6:6).
