Obsessed with Beauty

There is an ad on the Internet where this Caucasian woman is reported to be 53 years old and after using this special wrinkle free cream, she looks like 27 years old (26 years younger).

I believe people have become so obsessed with beauty that they are missing out on life.

Men will say I don't care if my woman is ugly once she has a loving spirit, kind etc. But is this really true? The face tends to be the first place people look at.
Even black folks who bleach to have a lighter skin tend to focus on the face, and then their hands and legs remain black.

I guess if there is a blemish or some other deformity on the other parts of the body, one can hide it, but the face is always the place that we tend to want to look good.

Well the face is where most people focus their attention on one.

I don't know... I'm 50 now and I'm beginning to look like exactly what I am... a middle aged mom. I have lines around my eyes, my skin is beginning to sag... I've got grey hair.

Now, because I'm an older mom, I promised my kids that I would keep my hair it's original color (well, not original because that was a beautiful strawberry blonde that try as one might, one cannot get from a bottle) until I have grand babies. As soon as I get grand babies I'm letting my hair go completely grey.

As long as my Steve thinks I'm beautiful... the rest of the world can look upon my saggy, baggy wrinkly self.

I would hope you would never seek to bleach your skin Abide... From your picture, you look like you have beautiful skin.

Look at some to the hollywood types theirs faces are smooth and plastic looking.... not for me.... Wash my face add some lipstick and i am done.... Hair is light gray around my face little darker in the back .

I was at a Christmas party 20 years ago the blond girl was beautiful. We were across the table from each other...She had a drink then 2 and then 3 etc. her pretty face was saggy and distorted beauty like that is not very deep it melts away quickly....

Thanks:)

I would never be so silly as think of bleaching my skin. I hardly use cream. I use a little Noxema and a little powder. Nothing more.

Well, you know what they say, "Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly it go right to da bone!"

(Somehow I feel like I'm posting in a women's only thread)

I think the obsession with beauty is more a female thing, but I do think its affecting men, too. Men are expected to be either slim or built, have nice skin, a full head of hair, and good bone structure. I read somewhere that this is sociological. Women have more money, marriages break up more often, so it pays to be man pretty. Gay+bisexual dudes, of course, have always placed an extraordinarily high importance on beauty.

I think its important to look healthy and it pays to do what you can to avoid obvious flaws. For instance: I take generic, imported Propecia for my hair loss. I caught it relatively early, so I have a full head of hair. I'm not *proud* that I take Propecia, but having hair=being perceived as more attractive=being treated better, and that's always a good thing. My doc also Rx'd a medication for my skin problem that's used by many as a wrinkle cream. I'm kinda fresh faced for 28, and I will be for a while to come (I get that super cheap from India, too). Again: yes, its kinda vain, but it results in being treated better, since studies indicate that attractive people are treated better and even perceived as being "better"--smarter, more virtuous and trustworthy--than people who are less attractive, especially people who look sickly (that's probably human nature--if you look sickly and prematurely aged, people aren't so nice to you).

I think there are some women who use the heavy makeup/beuaty treatments as a mask to hide behind.

You know, I think you're right.

LOL. Here's the thing: I don't judge men who go bald. Even with pharmaceutical and vitamin-based intervention, I might end up bald. I'm just delaying the inevitable. I just notice that now that I have great skin and a full head of hair, people are much nicer to me.
