Once you set up any other religion above the others...

Our Constitution is the best protection Christianity has.

Not any more.

But if we try to use it to infringe on other people's rights, we too will lose in the end.

What are you saying? That religion should be kept behind closed doors, and no one should use it to determine what is right and wrong, or moral/immoral? That is a definite fallacy.
Or did you mean something else?

Out of curiosity, does anyone know how bible's in hotels and hospitals became such a staple? I might be remembering this wrong but I think it was started by the Gideons, who distributed bible's for free. They started in 1889.

The Gideons were founded in 1899, as an association of travelling businessmen who were Christian. In 1908 they began placing bibles in hotel bedrooms. In 1916 they started distributing Bibles or New Testaments to hospitals, in 1937 to schools, and in 1941 to military personnel.

I wonder whats wrong with lifting or promoting Christianity above any other "religion"

Nothing at all wrong with that.

Indeed, when the USA was founded, virtually all citizens believed some form of Christianity.

However, things go bad if governments pick sides on particular debates within Christianity.

Not necessarily addressing Barbarian. http://christianforums.net/Fellowsh...ment-to-remove-bibles-from-va-hopitals.64273/

I lifted this from another thread, but I wonder whats wrong with lifting or promoting Christianity above any other "religion". Does the bible want us to rate them on the same scale: equal? That was why Jesus (or His teaching) was seen as a troublemaker. He was not going to please the people by becoming mute, He did the right thing.

Better to be unAmerican in defense of Christianity than to be American to the detriment of our faith.
Classik,
There is a religion named Christianity, so named to make counterfeiting of the Christian Faith possible. True Christianity is walking with Jesus because of the unquenched leading voice of the Holy Spirit. This means the Religion called Christianity will lead anyone into Hell, just as surely as and swiftly as Islam, Hinduism or any religion.

That, of course causes an issue to arise that demands an answer, "Which Church is the one Jesus will take out at the Rapture?" The answer is none of them. Scary stuff but not actually. As a singer I had the opportunity to meet and to interact with many people from the different Sects and I found a few Christ Followers in every Church, not many but God has spread His Remnant through out that all people in all Churches have the opportunity to rub sholders with, to see Christ Following, in action and to learn to also follow, not that person, not but to follow the example and to follow Jesus.

So you see, I am a Christian, first and foremost and only then am I a Baptist. My religion, the Baptist Religion, is the result of seeking to worship "my" God with folks like me. It will not get me to Heaven, only following Jesus, the Christ will do that.

BM,
The religion aspect known as anything is best kept out of everyone's sight. Our Christian Walk on the other hand often does not but should never fail to walk out the doors of the Churches. But beating people over the head with any religion will only insure them a free ride into Hell.

I couldn't disagree with you more, and I don't find this "I hate religion" thing at all helpful.

"Q. What is true religion ? A. The true and lively knowledge of the Only True God, and of him whom He hath sent, Jesus Christ." -- Leighton's Catechism

"Religion: The belief in and worship of a superhuman controlling power, especially a personal God or gods." -- Oxford online dictionary

One of the reasons I don't find it helpful is that one can't separate the action of "following Christ/worshipping God" from the theological question "what does it mean to follow Christ/worship God, and how does one do so?" After all, everyone can say they follow Christ, even if their actions contradict their words.

Brother, I assume,
You are just as free as I am to choose your path but I believe a good study of Matthew 23 and the eight woes might do you well. Remember to pray for the Spirit to guide your study and quench Him not. There is certainly an element of history in the four Gospels but none of them are history books and yet there is such a strong rebuke of religion fro mthe mouth of our Savior. And then in The Revelation, the rebuke of each of the seven Churches. Jesus called us to gather together and to follow Him so that we, the people, become the church He is saving. He will not save Baptists, He will not save Catholics and He4 will not save anyone that does not follow Him. (Matt. 7:21-23)

I know you are new here and have, likely, been rode hard and put up wet on the internet but we try not to fight here and soft words of knowledge will edify everyone and will create no enemies. May God bless His ways to your heart.

Radagast,
A footnote from life experience; I once had five very expensive guitars and an amp that will sell for several thousand dollars today. I played one of them any time I was seated on a chair, on the porch, on a barstool or on stage. Music was my religion and I was very, very religious. Religion or being religious has a good deal more practical application than the narrow confines of you selected definition. If Jesus had wanted Religious People, the Jews were well qualified so why worry about another religion?

And you seem to have injected what I had no part of saying. Being a Baptist Bible Teacher, I, certainly, have nothing against people coming together to worship and/or to study, both should edify all present but the truth is that better than 98% walk out the door and their Religion remains inside the building. The Church Jesus came for and the Church Jesus will Rapture out of here is the people that walk the walk, they are His Church. I hold Church with a large variety of people, right here in my house. Even excons are known to come worship, right here, not just in the building that sometimes contains the Church and many, many, other people.
