Orthodoxy

What exactly is Christian orthodoxy? What is its importance? Does being orthodox matter? Is being unorthodox necessarily being unbiblical?

Many today accept the Nicene creed as a basic primer on what is 'orthodox' as a general rule and starting points of agreement, all of which I personally agree with.

Then there is 'orthodox' tradition which will branch the subject off into wild (imho) directions.

The 'orthodox' institutions or at least those making claims to that position would be the Eastern Orthodox and the branches thereof, Oriental orthodox, Greek Orthodox and the infamous R.C.C.

I would consider most sways from the Nicene creed to be potentially based in various forms of heresies. The heresies themselves have and will be continued to be carried in various people to this day, but it is of the same resisting spirits that existed when these troubles began to surface and the Nicene creed was the orthodox attempt to still those various and mostly false alternative positions.

fwiw.

Who is to determine what is orthodox and what isn't?

There are claimants and there are positions. The postitions are not the same as the claimants imho. The positions have to be examined, and usually are by any who pick up the text in order to measure, veryify and test.

Along that trail many things can happen to any of us.

Though I may concede to many orthodox positions as TRUTHFUL, that does not mean I agree with all that they hold or do. That is just where I landed, and I think any sincere believer will eventually land on similar conclusions.

There are HUGE flaws in orthodox variants just as there are in many Protestant positions and as there may be in ANY given positions.

For example, I agree in TOTALITY with the determinations of TRINITY and TRIUNE understandings. Where I depart with them is upon their own ground, that which they OPENLY acknowledge, that being the TRINITY is A MYSTERY.

I cannot in 'good faith' condemn any other believer based on the MYSTERY of understanding these matters AS THEY DO and practice. Just as I would NOT agree with perhaps some other VARIANT of this matter but I would not CONDEMN that person in their contemplations. I just don't want to step into the box of CONDEMNATION as that is a worse fate 'within.' Dig?

Orthodoxy is a general term referring to adherence to the accepted and traditional or established faith

This is what I found online, and yes I did Wiki it. Sue me. :)

Anyway, it looks like Orthodoxy is just an accepted way of doing something.
