We can know and UNDERSTAND Yahweh trough the creation, this is what Paul says in Romans 1:19,20. If we have true understanding of the Creator (not just know about Him), it means that we know Him personally:

And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. (1 John 5:20).

Ah, live2blieve, now, you're getting to true knowledge of God with your quote of 1 John 5:20. We know him personally through his revelation of himself in his creation but also and more intimately through Jesus Christ. I agree.
