Because they have been taught to believe in their riches, politics, and the empty promises of this world. Education prevents them from believing simple truths, that don't add up for them.
The simple aren't so smart, so education doesn't stand in their way. They have learned the hard way this present world holds no future for them, so they in turn look to God, and the promises not seen. The educated, and rich cannot make sense out of what they cannot posess.

Hi all 
Not all people with high IQs aren't believers.
Yes, like someone mentioned above, education often turns people away from the Truth. SO many secular professors have taken it upon themselves to make fun of and discredit Christianity. They actually actively persecute believers in class and try to humiliate them sometimes.
BUT....then you have things like the Scientists at Los Alamos who were working on the Atom Bomb, and all the incredible complexities they discovered caused them to realize SOMETHING was behind it all. This caused them to ask Billy Graham to come and talk to them about God !!!
Then there are those like Lee Stroebel. He was a VERY smart atheist who after trying to disprove(?) God ended up becoming a Christian because of what he learned.
Then there are conclusions like the one in Discover magazine a month or so ago - Either there's a designer behind the universe due to the plethora of INCREDIBLE coincidences in the various values that determine gravity, the atomic forces, etc. etc., OR there must be multiple universes. Hmmm. If our universe is infinite though, where are all those other universes ???
