Joshua 24:15 NLT
But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.

We make many choices every day: Cereal or eggs? Black socks or brown? Tea or coffee? Many are seemingly inconsequential. But there is one crucial decision we all make in our lives, and that is whom we will serve. Everyone serves someone or something. We were created to worship. There has been placed before us a challenge: Whom will you serve? God? Another idol? Even those who choose not to serve God, and refuse an idol—they choose themselves and their pleasures—which are idols.

Choose today! We do not know how much precious time we have in this temporal world. We know not when this choice will no longer be before us! Scary thought. Placing family, goods, self, and one’s personal desires before the God who calls you is a choice…made every day by folk.

Choose Jesus Christ. Be blessed and your entire household---for working and playing in the service of the God who made us and loves us beyond measure brings GREAT rewards! Peace in the home, financial and physical health, and wisdom are all common examples of markers on the life of the one who serves Jesus Christ without reservation!

I have some major issues with the last paragraph in the OP. I have read that those things spoken of as "markers", are also used for "marks" of the otherside. Meaning those are things that may or may not be present on the life of a believer.

I agree. This took a very encouraging message and sent it in another direction. For those of us who reject the "Prosperity Gospel", it loses a lot in this one paragraph. I don't believe you intended for this to turn into a debate, but this will likely send it there. And it's been discussed a lot.

No. I am in no mood for debate. Just stating the facts. ;)

I always look forward to Alabaster's devotionals. She is such a sweetie pie. :love2

Mike, Nathan. Please keep in mind that she did said 'health' and not 'gain'. Financial problems can cause severe stress and it allows the serpent to get his claws into stealing one's joy in Christ. I prayed for an outcome in the form of a permanent position and the LORD answered my prayers. I now have the means to support my little one, and even though I scrape by every month, my financial position is healthy and I praise the good LORD for that.

My dad and I never got along - things are much better now. Isn't that a mark that all is in order because we made the right choices?

Nathan, I realize how it looked like I posed the question to you, but I was posing it to Alabaster. I don't believe she was out for a debate, but this is a hot-button within the Church.

I'll just say I don't believe there are any promises made that pertain to our lives here on earth, except that we can find Peace in Him in spite of any of our circumstances. To me, this includes infirmities. I believe there's ample scripture that can be used to back this up, but I'll leave at that, since I don't think Alabaster would be wanting this kind of conversation.

I like the rest of the message! :yes

There are something like 2500-3000 promises in the Bible!

I'm trying not to "go there". It's been a while since I dove deep into an argument against prosperity preaching. I don't think anyone in this thread wants it. When there are promises made, they are promises of His Kingdom. I believe too often people are lead to interpret them as promises of this world. Okay, I'm finished here. No more from me.

I certainly didn't post the OP for it to become a debate on prosperity teaching, although my last paragraph is the truth. God does make promises to us in this life also, that as we walk with Him in obedience to His will, we receive blessing in ALL areas, and not cursing, which the Bible tells us over and over and over--to be realized in this temporal life. We receive such blessing in order to bless others. That is what makes Christians powerful in the world, as salt and light.

It is a choice. Trust God and His promises...or not.
