Pierced ears for boys/men?

I am a man.

And I don't plan on getting my ears pierced. I know it used to be popular, but I don't see many of my friends doing it. I don't see that the Bible says anything at all on the matter. So why bother? And of course we have the risk of infection.
I just don't see a reason to do it. A tat, different story, but I really couldn't care less about piercings.

I see what you are saying, I think and I reckon I agree that there is no particular Biblical prohibition, either.

Why bother? well, this is a reasonable question. Fact is, some ppl do bother.

Re. infections, there are some young ppl who want to do it and may try to do it without sterile equipment; I guess this might be some sort of an argument for them to be encouraged to have it done properly and safely, if they want it done. (Two cents...)

So why do you think people bother?

I know people who have gotten infections from getting it done professionally. I'm not saying that's a reason not to do it, I'm just saying that you can't 100% guarantee no infection. It happens.

Well, I suppose there is a great variety of possibilities, but it's undoubtedly a custom that a lot of ppl practise. (Even some men in the Bible got ear piercings, after all.)

But I guess there are a lot of variables there that are hard to generalize about, anyway, right?

I don't think it's a good idea for a guy to get his ear pierced, but I can't find anything against it in the bible specifically.

When I was younger I had both my ears, my eyebrow, and my nipples pierced. I did them myself too. I'll tell ya, it's a bad idea to have nipple rings in when you are grappling. I had one get ripped out, but I replaced it later. (don't try this at home)

Later on in life my heart was changed and I thought better of it than to have these piercings. I also joined the army anyway so it was a no-no.

I haven't had anything pierced since and will discourage my son to do that as well, but I won't exasperate him about it.

Look what I found please go to the site and read the whole earring thing.
Earring - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sexual orientation

In various Western cultures, piercing the left vs. the right ear has sometimes been popularly perceived to be associated with a particular sexual orientation. In the 80s it was said that "left is right, and right is wrong,"[2] alluding to social prejudices surrounding sexual orientation. The left ear was reserved for piercing by straight men and a pierced right ear signified that one was gay. It is similarly held that among homosexual men, an earring in the left ear signifies a dominant partner or "top" and the right a submissive one or "bottom".

GojuBrian:

Well, he may ask; don't be surprised.

I'm not saying, guys go do their ears, necessarily. But if it's something they are maybe likely to do, best for the parent to help it being done in a sterile and safe way, I guess, is what a lot of ppl would say. (If this is at all logical, Brian?)

Hi, Lewis:

I also looked at the article and it also says that for guys it's associated a lot with musicians and athletes:

"By the 1980s, the trend for male popular music performers to have pierced ears helped establish a fashion trend for men. This was later adopted by many professional athletes."

Like I said, I'm not necessarily saying guys ought to do it but it's kind of widespread.

First of all I want to say I have my left ear pierced and used to wear a stud, but I havent for the last few years. Firstly because I just dont think I should wear one anymore and secondly, my ear was getting irritated anyways.

The only thing I can say is that I believe that Men should dress like Men and Men should look like Men and I do believe the bible says something about this, I am just not sure where at, probably by Paul somewhere. I am not sure if the bible talks about wearing a dress, but if it doesnt mention that, what would be the difference between wearing a dress or wearing an earring, biblically? I mean nobody would dare wear a dress and approve of that would they? I think the world accepts the earrings because the bad boy image and does not look down upon it as feminine, but what if wearing a dress in the future represented the bad boy image, would you guys wear a dress? And i am not sure the bible specifically mentions that.

the problem i see with that is each culture has its own definition of what men should wear.

in brazil, and in arabic cultures and polynesian cultures men wear flowers in thier ear(left).

some would say that is effimate.

so i think its something obvious as a dress and or bra then yes you are correct. but on some others its not as black and white.

ouch, i would hate to the have that happen in no-gi training especially when i'm put in side control.

(Hey, this thread seems to have revived again...)

Fact is, even some men in the bible married 700 wives. Doesnt mean its right to do, but as I allready said I cant specifically say for sure if wearing an earring is right or wrong. I suppose this part is whether the holy spirit convicts you or not.

This other thread, below, with the poll talks about the idea of bondservants in the Bible with a pierced ear, and its spiritual lesson; I won't repeat myself on this thread too.

Ty for your posts.
