That was an odd experience. At 915pm, my chest had a "lump" feeling in it. It went away after two minutes.
Next, my left arm went numb from shoulder to wrist. So, I headed for the hospital. They had me in a room and surrounded by four nurses and a doctor and in less than ten minutes, they'd drawn blood, started an I.V., put me on an EKG and heart monitor.
Blood work showed an elevated ("slightly") enzyme that indicates damage to the heart. They drew blood again and the enzyme was lower - this indicates an incident has occurred.
This morning, they did a stress test with gamma ray imaging before and after and mapped my heart muscles and blood flow, followed by an echogram of the heart. These tests showed that my arteries around my heart are "99% open" and that my heart muscles were working in unison - again implying they were fine.
At this point, my Cardiologist's associate told me that they are convinced I am ok, they cannot explain my symptoms but have ruled out my heart as the culprit. The elevation in the enzyme was minimal and they were maybe overly cautious but given my symptoms everyone was very concerned. The PA suggested that the meds I am taking to prevent fibrillation along with my testosterone injections may cause that enzyme to vary in quantity. I see my cardiologist next week, but I have been assured that my 57 year old heart is pumping and working much like a 30 year olds insofar as blockages are concerned.
It was an odd and scary 18 hours.
