Pizza is about ready to ROLL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw the word Free and Pizza in the same thread and came to see how free pizza is given away online. :yes My mouth was watering with anticipation, as I believe all things are possible if God is involved. :pray Lo and behold, I was incorrect in my assumption...no free pizza. :lol

It was an interesting read, nevertheless. :)

I haven't seen any children driving cars. ;)
For one weekend, we were all "BigKids".

(One of our members is about 60, he calls himself "BigKid" on our forum.)

I sure wish I could shrink some of these pictures... working on it!

Lol! Sorry to disappoint.

A link to youtube's most boring video:

We are approaching Franklin, NC about to stop for lunch on our "Moonshiner" run. It is named that because, after lunch we head back to Fontana Lodge on a section of NC 28 that the locals call "Moonshiner".

No idea why, but it IS a fun, curvy road! And a pretty drive thru mountains.

I don't understand it, but my upload to YouTube takes FOREVER. I am currently putting up two more videos, both longer, but WAY more interesting than this one.

Posting to YouTube is easy... but learning to edit videos has turned into an all-evening pursuit!

I think I get it now... anyway, here is the start of our Sunday four hour journey. It was supposed to be a "moderate" run, but Franc REALLY likes the run down "Hellbender Hill" - a part of US129 where it meets NC 28.

I TRIED to keep up, but the curves are tighter than they look in the video and the lanes are SO TIGHT!!! I worry about someone coming at me in my lane!!!

Anyway, I never got over 65 or 70, but Franc had to have not only taken curves way faster than I, but I know he got up to well over 80 at times. He has modded his brakes to handle the hard braking before the turns.

I was just fooling around over on YouTube. I realized that I NEVER actually watched all of that video in post 24. Wanna see how good my little GoPro Hero2 camera is? Click on that video and jump to 7:10 and watch as the camera looks into the SUN! It remains focused, the color of the sky is maintained, then it goes into the relative darkness of the closed-top car and even stays focused!

(There is a setting for running the camera with the top up, I don't have that option set in THIS video, but if I did, I could run with the top up and the view out the windows is as good at with the top down. But my point is, I accidentally pointed the thing AT THE SUN and it handled it!)

I still have a LOT to learn about this little toy, and the learning is part of the fun. (It has to be, since they don't send real user manuals with these things... like so many OTHER products today.)

I have my eye on a "dashcam" but it's mainly because some of the insurance scam videos that have surfaced. Better to record exactly what happened in the case of an accident, whether a scam or not and whether or not I am involved.

A local guy was recording when a driver cut him off without signaling. He honked and the driver proceeded to follow him to his work and unleashed a tirade on him. He grabbed his camera and showed her the video. She apologized and left. :lol

I know of a young male police officer who pulled over a 16 year old girl in about 1993 or so. He ticketed her for speeding.

Next day, her father came in to file a compaint that this officer had offered the girl a way out of the ticket - she only had to agree to a meeting for sex with him! Of course, this was all a lie.

This was when even police car video was a new thing. The Chief told the guy, "Let me review the video and I'll get back to you." The guy asked, "What video?" Chief said, "All of our stops are recorded."

The guy retracted his complaint and left.

Of course, of the five cars in the fleet, only ONE had in-car video and the officer was not driving that car - the chief was testing the guy - and he was lying!

I'd have let the guy sign a complaint, then locked him up for filing a false police report - but the chief was a 'nice guy' and let him go.

Even the THREAT of a recording can stop someone in their tracks!

Ok, I rode along holding my breath, I think my knuckles are white from hanging on so tightly. Whew! It sure looked like a very narrow roadway. :o

Might I suggest a little music to soothe the ride? The wind rushing through my ears made me decide a little music may help. How about this one?

Ummmm...maybe that one isn't such a good idea. :chin

:D

All joking aside. It looks like it was a fun and beautiful ride.:yes

You must be talking about post 26.

Yea, that part is SCARY narrow! Coming UP the hill feels better, but there is nothign but trees from keeping you from falling down the hill if you mess up.

But it is a VERY fun ride - it's almost better than the Dragon itself.

Can't listen to the music here at work, I'll check back at home tonight.

Wow, Im sorry - I can't believe I didn't post this one:

Here is my caption for it:
I and a friend were about to run the Dragon from the west end to Deal's gap. We pulled out of the turn-around and I noticed a Sport Bike coming up behind me with two people on it. I told my passenger, "This won't last, but I wanna see if I can keep ahead of him." After almost 7 or 8 miles of him running about 300 feet behind me, around 2:03 he gets closer. I know then that the cat and mouse are gonna reverse roles! He gets up close at about 7:35 and I know I want to get out of the way. At 7:52 I see the longest pull-off on the Dragon and pull over, barely slowing down. He and his passenger wave as they go by. Now I wonder: Can I keep up? Just for fun, I try. You will notice the trees go by faster now... and I mostly keep up, pushing it at times and, just as they turn off into the Gap, I catch them - they wave to us, I wave back. I told my passenger I'd like to turn around and buy them a beer or Coke, just for all the fun that was! (Edited from the original 18 minute video of the whole run.)

If you get bored, just advance it to about 7:40 and notice how much faster the trees go by after I let the bike pass - and then try to keep up with him! (Which I did do, most surprisingly). I did pretty good, a fast driver in an agile sports car can run the whole 11 miles in less than 16 minutes. I did it in 18 1/2 this time, but have edited out about the first half because it's just too long.

What an amazing ride, PizzaGuy! Congrats on the accomplishment...and all the fun you obviously had.

What a ride!

I was watchign that last video in bed the next morning at the Lodge - and actually started to get a little car sick! :D I can now brag that I kept up with a sport bike, I just don't have to admit there were TWO people on it!

I wish you could feel the G-forces in those curves. I've never been an adrenaline junkie, but at least now I understand them better! :thumbsup

The weekend of October 5-6-7 we go back, and this time, I'll have beefed up rear tires, more experience and about 30 more horsepower.

More of Pizza on the road... This is Georgia's best, most fun road - right up the south face of Blood Mountain. I can see that I got "comfortable" after about 4 minutes... and picked the pace up a lot. This road is about 45 minutes from my condo, and it tempts me a LOT!!! But, as you can see, Saturdays are just too congested up there... I ran it on a Sunday evening and had the road to myself!
(Didn't have the camera, bought it since. I'll be going back on a Sunday as soon as I get new tires.)

I won't be going back on Saturday again.

EDIT: I guess adding the link would be a good idea...

I know you can't tell, but I'm at about 1200 feet ASL at the start, and over 3300 ASL at the end! The run is something like 6 or 8 miles, and the steep climb helps... I don't heat the brakes up 'cause all you need to do to slow down, is take you foot off the gas! Going downhill, once you leave that lodge that I turn around at, you ALMOST never use the 'gas'!

Well, I was just thinking about this thread today. I ordered a dashcam and will hopefully get it in a couple of weeks or so.

This is what I am using:

http://gopro.com/cameras/hd-hero2-motorsports-edition/

I still am learning to use it, and I HATE how YouTube ruins the quality - the video on my laptop is better than what you are seeing on Youtube!

Still working on inventing a "custom" mount for the Crossfire Roadster, GoPro's mounts are good in that they are easy to use, but I don't like it being so far behind me. I'm working on having it up between the seats, on a rigid mount.

Maybe this weekend...

Yea, I know. That is one reason I am thankful that, on Easter weekend, of 35 people at the spring Dragon - we had 19 in church at the historic chapel at Fontana lodge! (One of our drivers is an ordained minister and chaplain to a local prison where he lives in SC.)

At the recommend of a local guy, I ordered this one: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/NEW-AIPTEK-X...Personal_Watercraft_Parts&hash=item1e69495001

Some good videos on youtube with it and the night ones are among the best I've seen for dashcams. I mainly want it to document what is happening in front of me. Several local guys have saved thousands in insurance claims because they captured damage done to them which, without the video evidence, would have been made out to be their fault (getting backed into and sideswiped).

Anyway, I should have some good footage to show by mid June.
