In Utah, Jeremy Trentelman’s kids, including 2-year-old Story, have been loving the cardboard fort he built for them in the yard. Town officials? Not so much.

Seems pretty ridiculous, but I couldn't find a picture of the whole fort anywhere.

im not sure what to make of that. we have some silly codes here. someone had to report that. its a code violation when I worked on my truck for over 4 hours. I know a guy who has cars being repaired in his front yard(driveway) and I say nothing. I don't care. I can report it but I wont. so what if he makes money. im not his neighbor, they don't care either way.

It looks good to me. That is nice to have so much cardboard to be able to build one of that size. We have built a couple, had only 2 or 3 boxes.

Jason, I am guessing the neighbors complain about the way it looks? With the cardboard too maybe. In a neighborhood near mine there is a house that built these big concrete pillars in their front yard to keep cars from crashing into their house. The city code says they shouldn't have done it, but they have had 2 cars crash into their kitchen window. I know of 2 houses that have this concrete type of barrier in our city now.

yes, usually that is the case with code enforcement violations. our code peeps don't just go riding for that. the city could have blown that off. and saids it just a fort for kids. get a life.

One more example of why I chose not to try to raise kids. The government dictates everything you do and when you try to do something good for your kids, they just ruin it. I would love my kids too much to be able to deal with that in any sort of rational way.

"safe" playgrounds and we , da gubberment shall build forts for you. sadly It probably is some old crank that has no life or doesn't like the kids noise and did it in spite. yes technically it is junk but man its a darn fort.

on a related note it was all that common that some geezer communities don't allow families with grandkids to stay there . or have a no kid rule. I know one place. woodfield.

No kid rule! That is crazy!

common and not new. I grew up around that in a trailer park called Lakewood village which had the adult section 55 plus. this wasn't the government doing this but the parks and communities themselves. perfectly legal in that you aren't forced to live there. freedom of association.

local laws here weren't passed by democrats alone. reba I cant take apart my clutch out front of my carport. park a car(which I did) without a tag, whilst waiting to repair and tag it. I nearly had code enforcement deal with that alone.

Sheesh jasonc i know,,,, the quip was not meant to be a reality .. lighten up... the mayor of of Ogden is a liberal..

do we know if the mayor or that city council passed that law? or was it already on the muni code book? they don't enforce that, the code enforcement board does and that is usually has full timers that do that and also a board of appointed residents to deal with the issues. they make recommendations to city councils then who pass the ordinances.
here we have the issue of part time tenants( 30 days or less) it is unlawful now in the city. I agree given what the recent events of crime and coming and going.

I work for a city. there are some codes I know that if I have to I will enforce and also follow city council meetings when its interests me.

I should post a pic of the home that has $60,000 in civil fines for code violations. a junk yard within in city limits and also he would block our meters. that well is a battle he cant win. he no longer lives there. the home has been a squat house ever since.

Years ago us kids would build forts in the church.. ... Seems i remember blankets on the floor.. moms would put the little ones on the blankets sort under the pew in front of them.. the benches looked about like this .. yet a bit more 'rustic'
