This is truly disturbing.

Brother Mike,
Still, we are supposed to be the light to this world and the salt of the earth. What does the salt do? It preserves and stops decay. We should also do our best to stop moral decay.
"A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven" (Matt. 5:15,16).
We should stand against the spread of darkness, otherwise we will be "no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men". (Matt 5:13).
I used to watch some programs on Nickelodeon 15 years ago, at the time it wasn't too bad, as far as I can remember. I used to like Cartoon Network too when it showed Popeye and Looney Tunes (and being the 90's kid, It didn't matter to me that those cartoons were from around mid 20-th century), but when I switched this channel some years ago, I was disappointed. Seems like they create cartoons and programs to appeal to "modern" kids, but it looked way too much.
Nowadays, yes, It is best not to watch these channels, but many kids still do; if not at home, they can watch that at their friend's house or online, and if nobody appeals to the conscience of these show/cartoon-makers, things will get even worse.
The problem with this thinking is that, today is not the days of 20 years ago, and it was not even much better 30 years ago.
I am trying to explain something to you here. None of it's Good, and has not been good for a long time. So while we see something blatant, and we need to stand against it. Go look at what Disney was doing in 1977. It's not going to change the message to get children to rebel, have fears, think of sex, and think that right is not right or wrong is not wrong unless the situation calls for such judgement. Lying is OK, as long as it's good lying.
Watching a couple Disney shows the other day. The kids are smarter than the parents, the parents are irresponsible, and this type of theme played in 3 different shows. This is instilling rebellion, and it will effect the child's relationship with God if we pour this junk into them.
Disney is not going to change, Nickelodeon is not going to change, and it's what we don't see, like those naked women pics in the Disney cartoon, it's those things running through the minds of our young ones we want to grow up and serve God.
Brother Mike, the evil has spread so much that of course it's quite easy to give up and think that doing something against it would be like tilting at windmills. But why then Jesus spoke about us being the light to the world and the salt of the earth? It is just a beautiful metaphor? How can we practically be light and salt? Some people see blunt things, they can stand against them. Some people see more subtler ones, and what prevents them from doing something about it?
Taking action brings results, and we can see that with homosexuals. Many of them would use every opportunity to promote their rights; and why are we, Christians, so passive? Christian values are being trampled on more and more, but most of us prefer to turn a blind eye.
I also don't own a TV
But throwing TV away isn't the answer to the problem. Kids have friends with TVs, they can watch programs online, etc.
If you have better ideas how we can be light to this world, please share them...
But I still think that doing at least something is better than doing nothing at all.
But you are being a light to the world. In the passage the light that is shining is the light of your deeds, not our talk. But I don't want to take away from what Nordica did, because it is amazing what simply speaking up and confronting people about what they do wrong can do. It may not change them but it does sometimes keep them from being so openly wicked. Confrontation is one of the hardest Biblical principles to act on. But we all have to do it sooner or later, whether it's in a marriage, or confronting the sidewalk vendor. I hate doing it. See me? That's me way back at the end of the line of confronters. My response is, "get rid of the TV." But then, I'm not being a light to the world.....
OK, brother Mike, I got your point, thanks for posting back
Hehe, no it's not my daughter, it's me :biggrin But I have a 6 year-old niece, and I deal with kids. Her parents don't really supervise what she watches on TV, but I introduce her to Christian cartoons and good cartoons; and if she saw some "bad" cartoons and told me about it, then we discuss it, and I tell her that Jesus wouldn't approve of this or that thing.
AMEN!I have a daughter that is 8. We can't always protect our kids from evil, but we can teach them to avoid it, a see it for what it is. I
Chances are good the poster is not at all concerned about children. On the internet any time you provide your name and some information about yourself, like your age, you're most likely being targeted for marketing purposes. Sad, but true.My point was to the poster. They are so concerned about this one show, but not enough to even post back here.
That is the approach I take. We can't keep our kids in a box, then one day say go out into the World.
You look really young for 30. Is that Oil of Olya? If so, I am off to see of they sell the gallon size jugs.
be blessed.
Mike
Well, if his first post here was a light hearted attempt at humor, it would have been ignored.
Seriously? Your first post to a Christian Forum is to sign a petition asking a corporation that is planted in the world, to suddenly not be part of the world, but cherish the Word of God.
