A Police officer is a servant and agent of the state/King to carry out the will of the state/King in the lives of the citizen/subjects.

In a talk I had with a member of "the Michigan Militia" in the 90's, I can say you have stated their belief very well. It was for this reason that they (the Miliita) only recognized the SHERIFF and his deputies as legal law enforcement.
WHY? Because the sheriff is ELECTED and answers to the people. The state and local/city police - well, they answer to gov't.


I must say, I once thought their thinking was a bit paranoid. I am coming to see their point. Maybe they were ahead of their time, or maybe they really DID see a "slippery slope" where I didn't.
In any case, my thinking is changing such that your statement above no longer seems weird or exaggerated.

It is a change in my thinking that I find very disturbing.

here the people elect the city council whom appoints the police chief. uh in florida a local cop can arrest you for a crime outside his jurisdiction if its a certain type. Ie a rape, murder etc.

I find it to be liberating dealing with life as it is compared to life as I would like it to be,i remember being in school and studying civics and government and hearing all of the high and lofty speeches and references to the constitution and the founding fathers,then I would go home and watch the nightly news and quickly learned that there is the world of idealistic fantasy where most choose to dwell and there is the real world and there are rarely any similarities between the two.

[MENTION=52402]Pizzaguy[/MENTION], we have a county commissioner who has been arrested and charged with a dui, he walked. he supposedly beat the charge. Idk, I think the city cops were told to foul up the evidence. that said this same person drove drunk and took a gate in gated community and was irate with a friend. a lesbian cop arrived and he made passes at her and also touched her inappropriately. if he was anyone else he would been jailed and or beaten senseless by that lesbian cop. trust me she has wooped many a men.
