A friend of mine is of this cavalier assertion that Politics is not for Christians.

He says that there is no politician who has not in one way or the other done something Christianity and God detest.

I think I was asked to name one who has not before done something evil in one way or the other, and I couldn't think of one.

God set the government in place for Moses .

name one person outside of politics who has not done something evil :)

Your bible tells you to pray for and honor your leaders, so, this is obviously a call for us as believers to be a part of the process which elects them.......absolutely.

There is not a Christian that has not in one way or another done something that Christianity and God detest.
I can't think of one ...... JESUS is the only one that lived sinless

Thank You Jesus for being my advocate my Savior redeemer of my soul.

Power+money corrupt. Absolute power corrupst...absolutely. Bad company corrupts good morals.

I don't think politics are a really good idea for Christians, clearly.

so Christians should run from the good fight... Let the world of sin control everything..

And I would ask him why his heart is so unlike God's heart? Perhaps your friend has found that one perfect Church where none sin and have not sinned but where I go to Church every member, including our Pastor, his wife and Children are Sinners saved by grace.

I, pretty much, live my life in repentance as do most of my friends. And I can find nowhere in the scriptures where we are forbade to become members of any gverenment but, instead, when I read the Great Commission, I understand there is no place we are not to go to.

Really like this reply: but the temptation is not always easy to overcome. How I wish we are not coerced into covering up for our boss or signing those fake files.
My sister got kicked out of a particular office all because she wouldn't cheat.

politics are in the Church look at the big denoms . what do they do they vote on ways to run the denom.if your not their flavor you don,t get in.

Well, "no politician has not done something evil", I think this is somewhat subjective. Our actions can have so many repercussions, no matter how good our intentions may be. Especially in that kind of position of power.

I once worked for Nippon Express and the Japanese (Nipponese) steal and lie like crazy but if you were to ask them, they will all beam when they explain how honorable they are. The one that fired me (because he was ordered to do so) liked me and saw to iut the company paid me, a truck driver, ten thousand dollars as a severance bonus. There is no honor nor good left in the world.

Honestly, I don't think it's a good idea either.

I've learned to look for a competent leader, just like I do when I go shopping for a dentist, a doctor, a mechanic, etc. After that, then I start looking for signs of a deliberately evil nature that would then rule them out of consideration.

No.
Just not try to fight the fight from the inside. That's a lost cause in a democratic society.

Politicians for the most part haven't figured out what a lot of christians already (supposedly) know, and that is this:

The laws promote the flourishing of lawlessness. They instead go about creating literal mountains of law, which in effect ends up destroying the country.

I don't envy them their jobs. Ruling a horde of hungry lawless folk. But the damages they inflict are self wrought, because they don't know the principles behind them. Their perceived task is actually opposite of the christian pursuits, to transcend above the sinful nature and it's control rather than put same under the law so it flourishes.
