Some of you may know I started working for Chevron almost two years ago now. Well, due to the drop in oil prices they have been forced to look at what they call a "employee surplus reduction." Which means there will be layoffs. Rumor has it that they will be eliminating about 80 people in my business unit, which encompasses about a dozen or less oil fields in the San Joaquin valley in California.

My prayer is that those who have been working with the company for quite some time (30+ years) will voluntarily take the severance packages that are being offered so those of us who are way down on the seniority list will not be affected. Many of these people are approaching retirement age (if not already there), so it would certainly benefit us younger guys by being able to stay employed through this difficult time.

Thanks so much for all your prayers.

i am happy to see oil prices low along with gas as cheap as it is. i do hate folks are being layed off. . its a shame our president does not wake up and see the jobs simply are not there. I pray God will keep you in a job

You and your family remain in my prayers, Knotical, and now I add the employment situation to the prayers.

Praying that this layoff will not effect you or others who need this income.

Just a quick update on this.

According to our supervisor many of us may be safe because of how they are handling the layoffs, nothing is certain at this point. People who have been with the company for a long time are being offered the option of taking severance packages voluntarily. From there they will be letting go people who have write ups (disciplinary actions), then they will look at the seniority list and work from the bottom up.

Thankfully, I am not currently on any kind of disciplinary action so I could be safe in that regard, plus I have quite a few people below me on the seniority list.

We won't actually know how all this shakes out until the end of next week.

Thank you for all your prayers.

Please keep this in your prayers. This coming friday is the day we will find out who will be affected by the layoffs. I am hoping that my job is safe, based on some of the rumors I have been hearing, however, they are just that, rumors.

Thank you all for your continued prayers.

Prayers have been answered, and in the way I was hoping. I still have a job. Once again I must give God my praise, gratitude, and thanks (if that is a different thing that gratitude) for maintaining in this position.

Thanks to all who have prayed.

Praise God!

Trust me... A new job due to losing the old one isn't the end of the world. But getting there is. It feels horrible but it builds character.

Jesus talked about two houses built on rock or sand. WHEN the rains came standing or crashing was all about the foundation. Rain always comes. No life is without it.
Be prepared for them....always and in everything.

I am well aware of that. Have been laid off and terminated from 3 jobs in my work history. Not fun.

I've got five w-2's from last year that I have to do my taxes with.
But I stayed busy and worked tons of overtime the whole year.

Also paid for two mission trips. And a car.

But it keeps my identity from being tied to a career or a company.

I have absolutely no feelings when it comes to getting laid off, fired, or "let go". I've been known to volunteer for layoffs... And try to let an employer down easy that I'm leaving as we previously agreed.

Yes, it's a volatile lifestyle and one that really makes me trust in Jesus...whether I'm eating steak or beans for dinner. Lately it's been a lot of steak...and no beans...but the rains are coming.

Excellent news!

Wow, praise God! For me in 2008, unfortunately, I was lay off from an automobile transmission plant here in my hometown. I was one of the last ones hired and one of the first to be layoff toward the plant closure. They finally closed in 2011. I know how it is when it was looming. Ever since financially was difficult but gave all to God and now being blessed by working for God. And still not making any money. NOT ONE Cent given to me. Freelancing in drafting and design is not cutting for me either since there are no work. So, good for you are safe! God bless!
