Since this picture is from the group's page on facebook--in other words, anyone with a facebook account and who finds the page can view it anyway--and there's no one in it, I decided there's probably nothing wrong with sharing it here.

Those paintings in the background were moved to the back of the room more recently, and replaced with different decor. I don't have a good picture of outside the building.

So, yeah, the inside of my Bible study group. :)

Interesting! Looks like they have worship songs there, too. Or have they had a Christian rock concert, or something?

Blessings.

They have a praise band for worship music. Usually contemporary songs are played.

Sometimes Christian musicians will come and bring both the worship and the message. The Bible study is run by a Christian radio station, so they have opportunities to do this.

Do you think your mom has any idea about this? or maybe she respects this now.

(Let's hope the Bible study has at least a good proportion of Bible rather than music, though! :) )

Blessings.

It can actually be listened to live on the radio, and she has listened to it a few times. So she knows.
She used to kinda wonder about them, but when the people there helped us when we badly needed it, she changed her mind.

Usually. Sometimes when a musician comes it's all music, and I'm not sure I agree with that. But, I feel blessed there.

You know, what really alters people's impressions is when they receive Christian love, isn't it? I'm sure this has been the case with your mom's impressions of the church.

Does she admit to liking the music a bit, now? (assuming she does, even.)

Blessings.

No, and she doesn't need to.

As an aside, the radio station plays mostly Christian contemporary and tries to avoid songs that are "too hard". Mainly in interest of it's listeners.
But some of the musicians that have come to the Bible study actually play hard rock, or another style like rap even. Most of the musicians are contemporary, though, but yeah. It's actually a youth Bible study, and I guess they realize youth might be more into other styles.
But I'm getting off topic.

My mom seems to be mostly fine with my actual church as well.

Hey, this is wonderful, questdriven! Really wonderful. You were concerned about this a while back and so now you are seeing a real answer to prayer.

You know what I think (but what do I know?); it would be almost the best solution eventually for your mom and your brother to join you at the local church that you now go to. Sounds like your brother would be okay there (I'm guessing), and if your mom could see that she can feed spiritually from the Word there, she might become more relaxed; she could loosen up, feel comfortable, make friends, de-emphasize some of the dress codes thing (Maybe I shouldn't say all this.)

Wishful thinking, maybe, but it would be nice if your dear mom could get to enjoy the new church like you obviously are.

Blessings.

Don't know. While that might be nice, she does agree moreso with her church in general, and wants my brother to be influenced by them rather than what she sees as more modern, a bit "conformed to the world" type church. It's still a baptist church, so there are no real doctrinal differences. But it's Southern baptist, and her church is independent baptist--which tend to believe that Southern baptist has compromised with the world too much, and that "even some independent baptist churches are getting more worldly".

I don't think there's any changing her mind, and I wasn't set out to change it anyway.

questdriven:

Oh okay. I was just thinking of what might do her some good, really, decreasing pressure for her about different things, I guess.

Like you say, the doctrine (in the true sense of the word) is unlikely to be different.

Blessings.

questdriven:

Well this is good, at any rate.

Does your mom maybe like to listen to your new church on the radio regularly? (like, doing it because she appreciates it rather than just 'checking up' on you). If so, this is a good step, I reckon.

Blessings.

The Bible study is on the radio, and I think normally she doesn't listen to it.
There's no way to hear the sermon at my new church except to attend there.

I see; it's the music from your church that she's been listening to, I guess, then.

I played a song that I had heard at church on the nook because it was stuck in my head and she was like "They play that kind of music???" xD
The church plays both hymns and contemporary. The youth actually play instruments in the song service sometimes, and when they do the song service leans more toward contemporary.

I see; well, sounds like she was surprised; not sure whether you mean she was surprised because she didn't like it at all, or that she very much did like it.

Anyway...

Blessings.

I think she believes that even if it's fine to listen to, it shouldn't be used for congregational singing.

Oh okay; I see. Kind of, screamed hard rock, then, was it?

No. Just not traditional music. Just that some believe that anything but traditional music "appeals to the flesh" too much to be used for worship, and my parents happened to hold to this belief. They respect/ed my music choices, but have/d their own convictions and opinions.

She doesn't like Skillet, then. (I think it was Skillet that 'did it' for you, right? - plus Disciple, etc.)

Blessings.
