hi. a wiser, older Christian pointed out the difference between -oppression- , which happens...
and -depression- , which is more of an inner signal that one's life is not going so smoothly, things are wrong, etc.
of course...from my experience...the oppression can trigger the low moods, which can get intense. David Wilkerson's widow...I think her first name is Gwen...has written about her experiences with deep depression. Apparently, a lot of dedicated Christians-- including famous teachers and ministers, etc. -- have struggled with what we now call depression. Not to split hairs, but...some call it "dark night of the soul," or profound sadness or...distress...
depression is more a widely used term lifted from the mental health area. not trying to nit pick, but I've personally found that renaming and then reclaiming my own experiences (as in...not relying on the psych terms) and then praying about it, etc...
to be truly...helpful, I guess. not that I don't have lows, just...God has made a way for me to see myself and my life and the dynamics of my little corner of the world better, more clearly -without- the psych labels.
