Pregnant woman fired for not marrying fiance

because people do lie and if you cared you would commit legally, do we just take peoples word these days? do you expect a bank to loan money out without lawful enforcement?
I don't need a cop to tell me speeding is wrong. I don't need a judge to tell me lying is bad. its the same argument for anarchy.
Common law is LEGAL in this country!! One must get a LEGAL divorce to terminate it!!!
I posted from a government site the LAW. Why isn't that good enough proof?
uhm, live in couples do that. I know a few, its rare but they are out there.
Then they are really stupid.
one doesn't have to reconcile if your spouse commits adultery. you can divorce on that. my state doesn't have common law marriages.
That is YOUR state. What right do does anyone have to say someone else's marriage is not legal when they got married in a state where it is legal? And guess what, all states honor a legal common law marriage from another state. So if someone were to move from Colorado to Florida, Florida is not going to tell them that they are not legally married. Per the Supreme Court.

I know that but I cant use common law and call myself married without a license.

meaning if that I went and bought a home. and went to a church, and said me meet my wife in a ceremony. its not done here. otherwise. the two males I know that once owned a home and didn't do that, were legally married today if they did that. there are men whom are gay, that will buy a home together.

I have learned they are master manipulators. Learning anything else in that department is going to have to be much later, they can wear a person out. lol
lol. sadly women are taught to be that way in the world. of course they some things about us as well.

Deborah, are you in a common law marriage?

Nope you can't.

Anyone can buy a house together that is not the point. That is just one of the ways that one would be able to fulfill the requirements for common law. But it really needs to be apparent to the community. They speak about the other person as being their spouse, they file their income taxes together, things that proclaim to others that they are legally married, that they are a couple not two separate entities. On tax returns it asks, married filing separately, married filing jointly, single...A legally married common law couple MUST file as married, they don't have a choice. That is their marital status, legally.
Legally it is very different than a domestic partnership or palimony and maybe that is where some of the confusion is coming from.
I think it was you who mentioned you didn't know what was done in Rome in the early days. I found this info.. I don't know if it is completely accurate though.
http://legal-dictionary.thefreedictionary.com/Common-Law+Marriage
"Marriage has evolved over the centuries, but some basic features have remained constant. In ancient Rome, it was accomplished by consent of the parties to live together. No forms were required, and no ceremony was necessary. This early Roman model of marriage was displaced when the Catholic Church declared in 1563 that marriages were not valid unless contracted in the presence of a priest and two witnesses. In England, under the Anglican Church, marriage by consent and cohabitation was valid until the passage of Lord Hardwicke's Act in 1753. This act instituted certain requirements for marriage, including the performance of a religious ceremony observed by witnesses.

The American colonies rejected the requirement of a religious ceremony but retained the custom of a ceremony, religious or otherwise. The ancient Roman concept of marriage by agreement and cohabitation was adopted by early American courts as valid under the Common Law.

In the 1800s, state legislatures began to enact laws expressly to prohibit marriage without an observed ceremony and other requirements. Common-law marriage was prohibited in a majority of jurisdictions. However, the Full Faith and Credit Clause of the U.S. Constitution requires all states that prohibit it to nonetheless recognize a common-law marriage created in a jurisdiction that allows it. U.S. Const. art. IV, § 1. Laws in all states require a common-law spouse to obtain a Divorce before remarrying."

Deborah, are you in a common law marriage?
Kathi, I personally know five couples, that I know of, that are married by the laws of our state. One is my daughter and her husband. They have been married for almost 10 years and have two beautiful children ages 6 and 4. Their marriage is recorded at the county courthouse.
And yes they are Christians and are raising my grandchildren to know and love the Lord.

But I first learned about common law marriage in this state when I worked at the ski resort many years ago.
Employees and their families could get several hundred dollars off their season ski lift tickets. In order to get the discount one had to prove they were married to the other person they wanted the ski pass for.
This was when I found out about common law marriages because those forms were presented as proof. So curious me I read up on it. I stopped one young woman from filling out a common law form for her room mate. That's all he was, they weren't even dating let alone cohabiting. When I explained the legal consequences to her, she decided that it wasn't worth the deception to enter into a legal contract that was fraudulent and therefore illegal.

Yeah, like impatience with them. Females my age are all about drama. They all need to take some xanax.
lol, most will outgrow it.
Unfortunately our society is focused on the wrong things and most young people your age, of both sexes, are immature. They still act like teenagers years beyond what young adults were like in previous generations.
It's like the difference between Hannah Montana and The Waltons or Little House on the Prairie.

You're right. I think all of the issues discussed are 1st world country problems and don't go very deep if you know what I mean. The issues are superficial - but some treat them like they are really a matter of life or death.

Yes, they do. Most teenage girls now are more like we were when we were 11-13, just plain silly about things, like you say drama.

This is not what I'm resisting. The couple approaches the governing authorities and fills out a form. If I was a pastor in your state I would require that all couples living together attending the church do this or leave the assembly. Doing that adds something outside of themselves that adds legitimacy to their sexual relationship because it involves taking legal steps to formally announce the purposeful intentions and commitment of both parties (simply having sex is NOT a commitment--good Lord, you women should know that better than anyone).

What I'm resisting is two people having sex and rationalizing it by just saying they're married. Out in the open that would ruin a church as couples take their example and become tempted to decide after a romantic dinner on the town that they suddenly want to become 'married'. If you catch my drift.

SOMETHING has to differentiate the regularly sexually immoral couple from the legitimately married couple. Simply saying you're married is hardly that distinction.

Common law is LEGAL in this country!!
I used to think that, too. I see now it is only recognized in 9 states. And here I thought my brother in Florida, and my son in Ohio were somehow considered by the state to be married to the women they have been with after 3 years. Not so true after all.

Then you should be the very one who gets a marriage license, not joins in with a government that is destroying marriage with their loosening of marriage responsibilities. Your rationale for not getting a marriage license is not consistent with the view of government you have shared here.
Jethro, let's face it you and I are just not going to see eye to eye on this one. You see this govt as being Godly but I see it has proven itself otherwise (this govt endorses homosexuality, abortion, targets Christians as traitors, putting women on the front lines in combat, and has outlawed evangelical Christianity in the military, among other things) I believe in smaller limited govts as our Founding Fathers did. I believe that God's word spells it out on how to act when a govt is corrupt...read Exodus 1:15-20, Joshua 2:1-18, 2 chronicles 10: 13-19, acts 4: 18-21, acts 27-29, Daniel 3:10-18, Daniel 6; 7-23, acts 4: 13-21, and acts 5:16-32. I cannot in good conscience compromise with this pagan govt. God has set up the line in the sand and I dare not cross it. And I will continue this debate no further.

Besides your revolt against the government being entirely against Paul's teaching about our relationship to the authorities that govern, I would think that since you're probably not going to leave the country as you should, that you would at least be eager to do what the government does do that is right in protecting marriage. Your rebellion against it is actually contrary to your ideology.
